I can't see 2D dying out, not with the demand for wave upon wave of Street Fighter and King Of Fighters sequels.

Now all we need is a handheld with 6 buttons and a decent D-Pad to play all the best 2D beat 'em up's on. I'd seriously love to be able to play Capcom VS SNK 2 on the bus, I would actually look forward to going to work just for that.

I love beatifull Sprite-Animation. And I hope, there will be more games like Metal Slug (Graficwise) in the future. (Wouldn't mind more Metal Slug games tough).

And it shouldn't be the best Grafics ect. the Graficstyle should suit the game. (Like Wario Ware goes with minimalistic grafics, and a Star Wars needs top of the notch grafics).

Yeah. Ok. 3-D graphics on a handheld is going to rock. What you could normally only play at home on the consoles, you'll now be able to play on the road. And that is good. Yes, it'll change handhelds for the best.

But that doesn't mean that 2-D will die. I believe that the old 2-D graphics are just as good as (and sometimes, are even better than) 3-D graphics. There's just more you can do with 3-D than 2-D (I mean, seriously, you get a whole extra dimension). Eventually 2-D will cease to exist except in our memories and old games, but that is not likely to happen for a while. 3-D is great, but 2-D is just as great.

And that's all I have to say.

Damned right it looks awesome. I can't wait to see this baby in motion and to feel it between my fingers...Won't happen for months, but that's OK.

Problem is how much will it COST?

Really...I mean, just how much? It's bugging me, because I want to save up during the summer...

But I won't know for some while...

ANd I need to get Paper Mario 2 and buy a new GCN to replace my old busted one...

So there's $150 dollars there...THEN there's the new Zelda game...Hehe...Happy.

*shrug* Who knows? All I can say is that Nintendo is pulling out all the stops this season as they seem to be tying up the GCN generation, and damnit, is it lookin' FINE.

Go to Gamespot and look at their new DS section. It has the game list for the DS.

The DS looks awesome. It has Wi-Fi, 3D graphics, and much more. It looks like it will be very cool. I am getting one as soon as possible... hopefully.

3D gameplay should revive the dismal state handheld gaming has been in for several years. I mean, SNES ports and $300 cell phones? That's going too far. Lack of 3D processing is GBA's biggest flaw, so these new handhelds will certainly give some reason to buy games again. Just please, give us a 3D F-Zero game and finish that old Yoshi's Story project. Now the modern laptop PC is going to have competition in terms of graphics (I don't own one).

Of course it depends on the game.

Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's good. Of course, you can't beat some older classics, but with time comes great things.

I think 3D portable gaming won't totally change anything. However, the Nintendo DS and its many unique features have lots of potential to do so. (check out Nintendo.com)

Of course, it's backwards compatable. Wanna play 'older' games? Go ahead.

But the new improvements are shaping up to create quite the war.

Admit it- playing Mario 64 with two screens wherever you want with other players WOULD be great.

All the 'old skool' games you talk of weren't old school at a time. Improvements are constantly being made.

And years from now, these huge leaps in gaming technology will be looked at as 'old skool.'

Think of that.

Besides, I'm sure there will be great 2D games on the new portables, as well, just like there are some great 2D games on the N64 or Playstation.

But all in all, evolving to portables that go beyond N64 capabilities is enough for me, but with everything else that we're capable of, who knows?

Video games are quikly becoming a staple of American society, so it's no wonder that we're trying to play them wherever we want more conveniently.

Would it not be cool to play Four Swords with people in other rooms in the middle of a quiet study hall? You bet.

And I'm sure Nintendo will do what they've been doing with SNES games with the N64.

Let's get a re-release of Smash Bros. goin' on a portable platform, then! It's definitely possible, and then some.

With time comes great things.

Something say that someone will revive the 2D gaming now and then. Heck people and devolopers maybe care less about 3D when it's so common.

I don't mind a 3D handheld, I like the 3D games... but I also like the 2D ones.

Mother and Mother 2 on one disk would seriously kick ass like no other... other than of course what you mentioned about FF's all on one disk... FF6 alone would make me buy it. The other 5 would be a bonus.

Ah. Replace "top" with "other". I got confused there.

The Wario Ware demo has 2D elements and so does the Super Mario Bros. demo. Although that is basically 2D with 3D graphics.

Viewtiful Joe was also announced for the DS I think.

I know i heard somewhere that there is gonna be a bunch of games on PSP that are 2D, I remember it was on IGN somewhere, and its supposed to be an RPG...so I say there is still alot of 2D games gonna be made.

Colin: The touch menu would be on the bottom, only the bottom screen is sensitive.

Seeing the cool games on the DS that are 3D is neet, the graphics aren't as powerfull as the GCN so to me it seems more of a race for gameplay. Heck, the Wario Ware DS video, which has examples of different microgames that would use the touch pad, only has one 3D microgame where you spin a ball with your finger to find Wario, the rest are simply 2D. Hopefully 2D and 3D could possibly live together on the DS, though 2D might just be pushed mostly aside. Then again, games like Veautiful Joe show that 2D and 3D can work at the same time, 2.5D as people call it I think. There appears to be a new Mario game for the DS that also uses the 3D graphics 2D gameplay thing, if anything that hopefully could be the future for 2D gaming if the 2D graphics die.

Well, 3D Portable would be nice, but Im having trouble imagining how you would be able to play Super Mario 64 with on a little bitty handheld.

I doubt 2D will totally die even with the new consoles.

RPG's should still be alive and well especially on the DS - imagine playing a 2D RPG on one screen and having a touchscreen menu on the top. I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon - too much of a market and there's still unique things that can be done.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the companies will rerelease thier best games as a part of "collections" as time goes on and technology gets better.

Think of it...all of the NES and SNES Final Fantasies all on one disc...

What makes you so sure of that? They didn't keep 2D games on consoles when they moved to 3D...

I personally have no clue on what will happen because of it. So... I'll vote indecisive.
