I have the latest drivers that I can see. I reinstalled Windows... No effect...
I bought another USB adapter... No effect...
But now it appears that USB data cables do exist... My network provider denies that it exists... w00t  I'll let you know what happens

I don't see why they didn't just use a friggin normal USB adapter... I mean
what could you possibly be doing... between your phone and your computer, that you need to walk around to do ?? |

Bluetooth is just like networking, Windows treats it as such. Not an emulated serial port, it's like wireless networking. Got the latest drivers and any USB driver conflicts? |

For those that do not know what Bluetooth is (I think it's a UK branded thing), it's a local wireless networking solution for devices.
You're probably thinking along the right lines when you think about the service that allows communication between two mobile / cell phones within ten meters.
Well... I have a brand new Nokia 6600, that in their infinite wisdom, Nokia have decided to do away with all data cables altogether (because, those are *so* last century, man).
I bought a USB Bluetooth adapter for my phone, and installed the drivers, the software, and Nokia's software.
I can pair up phone to the computer, but I cannot establish a serial connection between them (basically an emulated serial port through the wireless connection).
The phone complains that my PC doesn't support the headset profile (used for wireless handsfree devices  ). When I try to initiate the connection through the PC, it complains that the connection has been closed by the device (my phone).
On top of that, the network connections icon in the taskbar complains that "a network cable is disconnected". Mmmm... Ok, well that would be fine if Bluetooth involved cables .
I'm going to try a fresh install of XP after I sign off, to determine if it's the device. If it still screws around, I'll take it back and ask for a different product.
I have Windows XP Home, and a competant PC. |
