how about this, when you start out, you start with a small gun, and right away theres 1 part that is needed for a little better of a gun not far away, maybe a few feet ahead or behind or something, well anyway ill figure something out.

Buying smaller weapons would mean you'd have to find money though, wouldn't it? I don't think it solves the problem as well as it can be solved by having a reasonable starting weapon.

I definately like the less parts idea; I think making the smallest weapons take only a single part would easily allow players who are respawning or whatnot to get their foot in the proverbial door.

that also works, these are all good ideas

You could make it so that smaller weapons need less parts than bigger weapons, so that it will be harder to make powerful weapons. Furthermore, you could always do that there are a few weapons that you can buy, but only some of the basic weapons, so that someone could still get a small weapon without finding the needed parts.

wow, thats not a bad idea, I might just use that idea, Thanks, how does 3 -5 parts sound depending on the weapon?

Random thought on how to find weapons: Make them.
Strewn about the level, you find weapons parts. Bring them to scattered (fairly common) machines to turn them into usable weapons. Toss whatever you have in there and boom, weapon. You would only want a few different types of parts to keep the number of combinations down, but you could still make an interesting system of it.

Failing that, I like my FPSs to be games. Unreal style finding them laying around all the way.

there will be a mixture of all kinds of levels and weapons, but lets say you were in a city at this time, you wouldnt have any high tech stuff, only normal weapons, and lets say you were in space somewhere on another planet for a different level, then you would have space weapons, etc, kinda like that...although to do this im not sure how much of a storyline there would be for single player, but ill figure something out....and this way, everyone gets what they want.

when playing, how do you guys want to get weapons?
buy them(CS)
Find them on the ground(Unreal and Quake)
other(Specify)

Nice idea.

I like all three ways of finding weapons. You could buy some weapons from a shop or find some in a dresser. Also, you could kill enemies for weapons.

Type: Unreal (Game-like, no dramatic bull)
Weapons: Anachronistic (Specifically, old style weapons done future style. Light sabers are a classic example)
Levels: Outdoors with buildings (Cityscapes, ruins, that type of thing)
Multiplayer: Would be spiffy.
Online: If you have multiplayer, then hell yes.
Storyline: Quick, to the point, unobtrusive.

If you stink at making a storyline that is really good, go with Adventure-RPG.

Otherwise, make a FPS. Make sure there is plenty of action in it.

It looks better, now. I have to agree with knuck, though. It could be a FPS. Just add some hills and it would look cooler.

Still good, though.

Looks great!
I liked the clouds and trees better. (Just make the trees a little bigger )
I still say this should be a FPS.

k here is the next screenie, not much different, but there is a house, a few trees, and a test model, he just stands there. the sky also shows the weather system, there are dark clouds coming in, soon I will add the ability to rain...The shutters are a but off, but ill fix all that....

Enjoy oh, and you cant see it, but the Frames per second on my comp were around 50, so im willing to bet it will be higher for everyone else, cause this comp isnt that good.

It would seem that this project has come to a crossroads...

Sorry, couldn't resist that line.

It looks nice. If you could manage a texture to be overlayed on the ground at borders (Warcraft 3 does it, if that's any good as an example), you could make it look even nicer.

Are you planning on keeping the ground flat, or will there be hills and such?

Cool. A crossroad. Looks good so far. Post some more screenshots.

At least you can do some good graphics.
