You're thinking of Beatnik, apparently. |

But then people who already have it need to waste bandwidth downloading it again. I just keep mine in separate files, with links to them on the page of any program that needs them, so that people can download them if need be. |

Thanks for trying out my editor (for those who did). If you notice any errors, feel free to PM me about it. I'll credit you in the finding of such errors in the final version. I know there's one obvious error involving the widths of objects appearing wider, but that won't affect the hack at all.
legoman, download the file mentioned, and if that doesn't work, register the ocx using start> run> "regsvr32 commondialog.ocx" after putting it in the system directory. I should include the OCX in the zip file next time. |

Excite Track 1.0 Beta is finally finished. I completed it much sooner than I initially though. Anyways, you can get it at http://vbvanguard.freewebspace.com/excitetrack.html. Tell me what you think of it.
P. S., anybody know of a better host who would be willing to host for free/cheap? |

So what if he uses VB like Dan said. I do my editors in VB and it gets the job done. Atleast we are making editors and such. And with looking I think VB is much wasier to do an editor in than in C++. |

No, Hyper, that was directed at vb. He and I are old comrades. We were both a part of TEK back in the day. Since I don't talk to him very frequently I wasn't all that sure he remembered me or not as Bit-Blade.
A bit of advice for you: stop taking this internet crap so seriously. I was fairly light hearted/joking around in my post, yet you seemed to take a serious and careful reaction to it. You don't have to respond to every vague post that talks at you. Nor was it really all that necesary to take my post into pieces like that (although thats a minor criticism... or maybe a pet peeve). You could have just as easilly as responded to all of that in one paragraph instead of using that much space (or at least that's how I usually do things). I guess you could say a lot of the content in that post wasn't needful?
vbVanguard++ just.... ugh. Man, you can't do it! You just can't! The world would implode! So... what the hell have you been up to if it hasn't been rom hacking? |

Thanks for all the replies. I see there is atleast somewhat of an interest to my editor. To answer some questions, the in-game editor only lets you create your own levels. If you beat the actual tracks and get 1-3rd place, you will go to the next track, which will be exactly like the last track except with new obstacles thrown in. My editor will allow you to edit both. I might add a feature where you can import your custom made tracks into the ROM, but that's unimportant to me at the moment and it would possibly be included in later versions if I ever get to it.
And yes, I still use VB. No shame in that. Does the job alright. And even if I start to use C++, I'll still be vbVanguard. Or possibly vbVanguard++...

It's been forever since you've been active in the scene, you sly scene lurker, you. I'm confident you did a decent job with the editor, as well.
Also, why the HELL should vb vanguard learn anything other than visual basic? Then he wouldn't be vb vanguard anymore ;-;. C++vanguard doesn't have the same ring to it.
Edit: and just in case you don't remember (because we hardly ever talk anymore) I used to be MavrikNyne in TEK.
Hey, of course I remember you! I remember all of my old TEK buddies. I've seen you around on the board but I never knew you were MavrikNyne. That's awesome. Thanks for welcoming me back into the "scene". However, I'm not really dedicating a lot of time into ROM Hacking so don't expect me to be that active. |

I'm not saying he should, just that I figured he would. Once you get into CPU-heavy stuff like emulation, VB's limits make themselves quite apparent. (Pointers rock too.) Besides, this isn't a C vs VB thread, this is an Excitebike editor thread.

Vanguard++.
Edit: and just in case you don't remember (because we hardly ever talk anymore) I used to be MavrikNyne in TEK.
Is that directed at me?

Corrects: The game had a level creator. You couldn't edit the main levels, just create new ones (and if you wanted another level, the only choice was to overwrite the level you just created)

I'm definitely interested . . . I have always wanted to use the in-game editor actually . . . Imagine it: Edit levels on your NES emulator of choice, then use another program to rip the level out of the RAM and save to the ROM in the appropriate spot/format/etc...
In any case, I'm looking forward to this. Looks great so far.
BTW- Brainfuck is an easy language to use. An example follows:
Start Wet Lather Rinse Repeat Until Clean = True End
