You can't edit them in LM, but in a tile editor like Tile Layer Pro.
But you must extract the GFX 1st and then you can edit the Mario GFX and the animated GFX in Tile Layer Pro or another tile editor.
I recommend you TLP.
It's easy to use and supports many of rom types like SNES,NES,SMS and GB,... .

You can change all GFX in the SMW rom.

What do you mean by internal Gfx. I'd like to help, so um, just explain it a little more.
