Yes utilities too. Basically a good release that doesn't seem to stay at the top of the thread of it's own will get stickied. If it's a major release that gets a lot of attention despite (like one of my hack releases), then it won't get stickied.

DahrkDaiz,

What about stickying utilities?

The problem with using a single sticky that links to good releases is that people would get bored of going to the same sticky every week or so and I believe it would just fizzle out. This way, the good stuff gets to stay on top, first thing you see. With new stickies going in and out so often, you'll be more interested to see what's up.

Haha... If you're not happy with the quality of the hacks around, then make your own good stuff. Either that, or keep your mouth shut about it.

We also allow people to post articles about completed hacks and utilities over at datacrystal.org: in fact, that's one of the reasons we made the site in the first place, because good hacks and utilities often get lost in the depths of acmlm and other rom hacking boards/webpages. Personally, I suggest you have an admin-locked sticky thread that gets updated monthly or so...that way, you get a decent list of hacks/utilities/whatever, without the clutter of 100 people replying with "OMG ZEORhMER's Super Mario World SUNSHINE-LIKETYPE HACK IS TEH AWUSMUA!!!!111onetwoten", and at the same time alleviate the "50000 stickies" problem.

I think it'd actually work out well...

And a sticky with all the hacks that have been previously pinned would help, too.

Ok!

I think it's good idea simply for those people that aren't checking the board on daily base (like myself), that way they won't miss out on great releases.

Hey, if we started right now with just the good releases, we wouldn't come anywhere near that much, so the number ever does become overwhelming, I'll be happy because it'll mean somethin's happenin'.

So, I dig the idea.

whoah, you mean people release good stuff here? who'da thunkit. As for the whole symbol idea: I wouldn't reccomend mods do it, they suck enough as it is. especially dahrkdaiz. I'd say get some dedicated reviewers and give them the power to say "hey, this doesn't suck. sticky it, bitch."

One problem about that idea... Everyone would put that on their hack release, because if they didn't think it was good, they wouldn't release it. If only a Mod could put that symbol on would be a good idea...

Perhaps someone could make a symbol to place on a thread with a nice hack or promising demo and allow one to search for only those threads.

Or we could have a single sticky with links to all the good threads.

On a more or less related note, something that could be cool would the ability to hide some topics for yourself, or make it so you don't see them as sticky when logged in your account...

Often times people complain about not getting enough attention for their releases and often times they feel over shadowed. So, for now on, when I see something released, if I or perhaps an other mod think it deserves some attention, I will sticky the thread for a small amount of time so that it receives a bit more attention than normally. If a thread goes more than a few days without attention though, I will unsticky it and let it sink.

I hope these efforts will alleviate some of the stress new comers feel when trying to mark their spot on the map. Note, just posting a very small demo or ideas of a hack won't get stickied. It has to be a substantial demo or pogram release before I will sticky it. This is the criteria I will use for stickying those threads. Other mods may do so at their own discretion or this may be an idea only I execute, we'll see.
