Hrm, I would imagine that the ZSNES would have HDMA implementation and that by default it would be on. Wouldn't it be something else then?

I'ma smack both of you for looking like rejects over an emulator.

Perhaps if you didn't imply that turning HDMA off was technically impossible.

You are failing to realize that it was implied by the whole goddamn thread that I was referring to ZSNES

Why is this so hard to understand?!

There's a bit of a difference between "HDMA can't be turned on or off at the push of a button" and "ZSnes doesn't have an HDMA toggle feature".

I figured it would be implied given that we already know that

a) it works in SNES9x
b) it doesn't work in ZSNES
c) this thread is dealing with ZSNES's problem

excuse me for not explaining myself, I thought the thread had already done that for me.

Because HDMA is one of those features you can just push a button to turn off and on.

I am hating you more and more every day.

I hate you too. Anyway, here is a screenshot of Tetris Attack running in Snes9x. Notice the box with the translucent background and image at the bottom. This is acheieved using HDMA.

Now here is that same scene after I, as you said, "just push a button". Specifically, the '0' key.

Would you look at that? I turned HDMA off.

Oh and don't bother saying "well he said zsnes and ur using snes9x", because you didn't mention ZSnes. It may not have this feature, but it easily could. Despite your belief, HDMA is, in fact, "one of those features you can just push a button to turn off and on."

I had the exact same problem except I thought it was a problem with the rom. At least it works on the SNES9x.

Yea I remember that bug all the way back to ZSNES .800c when I first started into emulation years ago.

Another game that exhibits that issue is Killer Instinct. For some reason, you've got a playable game, but at times you won't have back graphics. Take Combo's stage, for instance, all that is show is a black background until you do an Awesome Victory or an Ultimate and then it comes into view for some reason as the lights dim. It's messed up.

For some reason, the globe mode works excellent in ZSNES but the regular map is broken. So whenever I play that game I tend to use the globe mode, which isn't as comfortable to use however...

I do remember getting it to work on a very old version of ZSNES, but I did not end up using that version. I don't understand the SNES as well as the NES, so I'm not quite sure why ZSNES is having trouble. Does the game use an obscure graphics drawing method or something, something that ZSNES doesn't quite get?

EDIT: BTW, this thread at zsnes.com mentions it, but no details are given:

On both DOS and Win versions (the latest 1.42 version), SimEarth doesn't seem to work well on ZSNES. Observe:

The pane where the world map is supposed to be drawn goes black, rendering it unusable. I noticed this same problem in several versions of ZSNES, and even reported it to the ZSNES authors a few years back, but never got a response.

The ROM works fine as far as I can tell on SNES9x; it displays the world map. It doesn't 'go black'.

Any feedback on this?
