It's been that way since version 1.00, and it doesn't make sense that I would carefully point it out a year later when I made the help file if it was a bug.

As for why, IIRC I had level 111 of the original game in mind when deciding if it should check layer 2 or not. Though, that was 4 years ago... not sure if it makes as much sense to have it that way now, given the varied hacks people are making.

Still doesn't make it a bug though, so oh well.

But how do we know it's not just a bug you knew about and didn't bother fixing?
Besides, why?

It might, if you haven't read the help file. It states pretty directly how it only uses layer 1 and sprites to determine the screen number.

Yes. The other option is to put a "Dummy" Layer 1 object on the last screen you're using during testing, so auto-set number of screens will set it properly. You can delete it afterwards, just remember that if there is no Layer 1 object on the last screen, you'll have to keep setting it manually.

Ahh! Thats what happened before. I was using Layer 2 as ground, so to get round it, I just need to uncheck the "Auto-set number of screens" option?

(For anyone's info) Also make sure that you're not using Layer 2 as your ground, if you're using the "Auto-set number of screens" option. For some reason LM only sets the Max Screen Number higher if Layer 1 uses more than 1 screen, but it doesn't set the Max Screen Number higher if Layer 2 uses more than 1 screen, and Layer 1 doesn't.

It sounds like you have set the scrolling to "No vertical or horizontal scrolling".

Ok, just unmark the "Auto-set number of screens" in the menu Options. But remember that you will have to set the screen numbers manually.

How many screens does that level has? You need to mark the option "Auto-set number of screens" in the menu Options so you don't have to put in the level header whenever you use another screen.
