Didnt I read somewhere about a Zbattle.net that would let people connect to a central ZNES server for multiplayer over the net? I didnt click the link and I forgot where I saw it but in hindsight it sounds cool...

Have you any idea how stupid that sounds? Learn to allow ports then. It's really not that hard and depending on the firewall, it isn't hard period anyways and usually doesn't require knowledge of disabling certain ports (ZoneAlarm, for one).

Don't disable your firewall unless it sucks...and in that case, delete it and get a new one pronto.

Thats a good place to look up your IP. Make sure you and your friend both check there.

Alright, I got it to work with one person, but I have another problem with another user.

According to him, our IPs are exactly the same. When we try to enter, we connect with our own computers. Is there any way to fix this?

ZSNES never worked right for me. Disable all firewalls or allow the ZSNES port before trying NetPlay.

Thanks for the help. I got it to work through my old computer. It should work online now.

If it's not a firewall, it's probably a router. That's another big thing that's a pain in the ass. However, TCP is usually not blocked on a router. I'm not exactly sure how to set it up properly so that ZSNES runs in a router, however. I would imagine that would be a question for the ZSNES forums, if they're still alive.

If it is the case of a router, you can somehow open the router so that it allows UDP 7845 (the default) and going from there. As I said, no clue.

  • If any firewalls are on, turn them off.
  • Use Zsnes v1.36
  • If it still doesn't work, uncheck "use UDP"
  • Open up a DOS shell (Start -> Run -> cmd) and ping the IP you are trying to connect to. (ping x.x.x.x as an example) If there isn't any packet loss, then I'm not sure.
  • Both systems might need to be using the same version of Zsnes, and probably same port. Although I'm not sure if same port would matter, it could

That's all I can think of.

My friend at Lemmy's Land Forum and I want to play the SMAS ROM (without world) together on it. However, ZSNES appears to be hating us and won't let us do it.

So, can someone point me to where I can find basic instructions on how to do it, or tell me how?
