Also, I really don't think anyone would really hack those games, anyway. but go for it! It's always nice to see people who would put their time aside for this kind of thing. I'm sure FuSoYa started somewhat like this, because everybody has to start somewhere.

You're stupid then. I've started a zelda II hack once in my lifetime [and the game itself is plain awesome] and Castlevania: Dracula X is the best traditional castlevania known to man. It's everything of NES castlevania goodness stuck into the SNES with more stuff [read: jumping on/off stairs and KEYS] So you fail, I know nothing of making editors or I'd be more than willing to help sorry

Somewhat, yes. I actually started out with a translation, but I made a basic type of map editor as part of it.

An editor is a pretty good way to learn about ROM hacking, but expect to spend a lot of time at it.

Yes, an editor does take alot of time. I figure my current one should come out in a few days, but the other one is looking maybe Christmas time or something since it is much more complex than the other one.

oh and about the Zelda 2 editor sucking...well I have to say I like to see what you could do with QBasic...

That zelda 2 editor fucking blows. I used it and hated it quite a bit back in the day.

Both NES games have editors and they are for DOS. I think he is saying that he wants a Windows version of them. The Zelda II editor should be easy since I know the source code is freeware and out there somewhere...I might even have it laying around. As far is Kid Icarus, well GL on that one...I could possibly provide how it works since the data I herd is simular to Metroid...

Also I know there was a Zelda 2 Palace Editor released in the end days. Here is a link to the editor and source:

Too bad those two editors suck (or at least, I recall hearing much about the Zelda 2 editor sucking, but I don't know about that one first-hand. The Kid Icarus one does suck, though).

Anyway, if you want any data handed to you, then I can supply some Kid Icarus data (a good portion of which can be found using KidEdit and Hex Workshop's compare feature if you don't want to find it in the ROM yourself, so it's mostly nothing new). If you'd rather learn how to find the data and then find it yourself, though, then great; that'd be the better solution, in my opinion, but it's not really necessary. You should know, though, that Kid Icarus uses an unconventional format nearly identical to that of Metroid for most stuff, so that may make it harder for you to find it if you've not worked with Metroid before. In fact, I don't think Zelda 2 uses a conventional format, either, but I may be wrong about that since I've not worked with the game before.

I doubt very much there is anyone who is willing to give copius amounts of time to something when you could learn it yourself. You can find docs about that kind of thing with relative ease.

I want to make a few editors for the following games...

GAMENAME
NES
Kid Icarus
Zelda II
Wings
Untitled
SNES
CastleVania: Dracula XUntitled

I have VB knowledge and willing to learn a better language. I want someone that is willing to give copius amounts of time to teach me how to get level data, modify it, display it, etc.

Anyone up for the challenge?
