Shen made a fist on the shards and when she opened it, they were gone.

Shen: "Now they won't re-appear unless I die or I make them."

Shen turned and started to walk off, back to cure the magic sickness that had covered the area. She would heal this, and then go find other's that needed help, like she always did. She had no real care for her own life, she was happy when she saw other's happy.

Evan sighed... Why was it that it was so easy for her to do that...?

He paced ahead of her, and moved through the ruins with ease. The shards lay deep within, and he could produce them much faster than her. A few minutes of searching, and he met her back at the entrance, holding them in his hands. They glowed green, with an eerie light. Even touching them gave thoughts of madness, though not nearly as fearsome as the power that would be wrought by bringing the remaining shards together. So much energy...

She had better be right.

"Here, then... Take them. But be forewarned, like it or not I'm not going to just watch them be taken away. Don't keep them close to you for long."

Shen walked closer to Evan and tipped her hat back so her face was visible, her eyes stared right into his. She kept looking at him, her eyes not even moving.

Shen: "You already trust me."

Shen stood on her toes and pressed her forehead against Evan's, her eyes about an inch from his. Shen went back to standing on her feet and moved to the side of Evan, heading towards the shards.

Evan: "I don't trust you... I've been here way too long to do that. Prove that I can trust you."

He's beginning to heat up again... Clearly he's not finished yet. There were plenty of places like this in the world, but he didn't want to give this one up. It was the principle of the thing that counted. He had sworn to guard this one in order to keep the world safe only because he was unable to search out the rest of them. Now, here she came along, and she thought she could just waltz in and take them without him intervening? Sick.

Evan wasn't about to take any chances.

"I've already asked you before. Can you prove it?"

Shen: "If you're guarding this, what would happen if he came across all the others and became stronger than you? What if he got help to beat you? What if you die of the magic sickness that's been plaguing this area?"

Shen didn't even bother to look up at Evan.

Shen: "I can cure that sickness with these shards, if I don't get them, hundreds of people will die."

Shen was about ready to just walk past Evan, but she didn't, she had to at least let him have his pride.

Shen: "I can mask the presence of the shards, no one will be able to find them. If no one knows where they are, they are safer."

Evan: "First tell me how I know they'll be safe with you."

He wouldn't let her through if she didn't... He knew how to get to the shards, he had hidden them himself.

But, well, wait, she could read his mind.

"Come on, if you know so much about all of this then you know why I'm here. I already gave him an asskicking once, This is just one of many essential places that he can't go to!"

Shen: "If I returned them, what would be the point of all of this since you'd just come back here and waste your life."

Shen sighed. She couldn't read minds, only impulses and confusions. When she had actually gave him understanding, she'd seen everything about his life go by in an instant. The whys always confused her though.

Shen: "Now do you mind moving?"

Evan: "How'd you know my name...."

He then remembered that time when she stared into his soul... Could she read minds, too? Then that meant she knew why he was here, too. He wouldn't need to describe it. Good, mind reading made things easier in cases like this.

"I...I'm not done yet! You'll return those shards when you're done! I swear I'll follow you to the ends of the earth if you don't!"

Shen: "Never think only about yourself within punishment or salvation..."

Shen's soul energy seemed to become unfocused and returned to normal, no longer having a presence on the battlefield.

Shen: "In other words, look for help."

Shen turned around and held her hand out to her hat, another wind came across the field and the hat glided onto her head. She fixed it so it wasn't hanging one way turned back around, only the smile on her face remaining visible.

Shen: "I'm Shen, Evan. I'm not that hard to find if you look."

Evan: "I know full well--"

And the hug... And understanding...

"Oh... But---!"

He ran after her, dazed by the revelation. She was just ahead... Maybe, just maybe he should let her in after all.

"Wait! Wait! What's the better way, then?"

He circled around her again, now blocking her not for his goals, but for himself.

"I... I don't even know your name..."

Shen flinched as she felt chaos energy touch her shoulder. She hadn't been able to move away fast enough to avoid Evan.

Shen: "You're... you're... foolish..."

Shen's aura seemed to completely die down, and she started going. She didn't speak, but Evan felt the words.

Shen: "Great Nirvana."

She looked up and grabbed Evan's hand, she tore it off her shoulder and spun around holding onto it. A breeze blew over them and her hat flew off, reveling pure blue eyes, with tears streaming down a young woman's face. She wasn't crying in a normal sense though.

Shen: "You haven't realized how this universe works yet..."

Shen hugged Evan, and her soul seemed to touch his, explaining everything she couldn't with words.

The truth of the universe is always just out of the grasps of humans, many believe different things and many fight over it. So far, no one has been right though. The universe's secrets refuse to reveal themself after all this time. Within every soul lives great possibilities. From the ultimate purity, to the absolute darkness. Those who refuse to take the paths made for them are known as humans. Their souls are different, they change depending upon the person. Still good and evil live on in their souls and they usually are forced one way or another, but certain people refuse to take this path and do good things with evil power, or evil things with good power. Even fewer end up understanding what the human soul is. However, the part of the human that leads them to do the wrong thing is usually their mind. By using only their mind they take on impossible tasks and live only with blind determintion, choosing to ignore everything else and just focus on their goal, these people are considered lost. All they can hope for is that someone will come and show them that there are better ways.

After this passed to Evan, Shen let go of him and turned towards the ruins, going back towards the shards. She was here for two reasons. The person that needed these, and to save a wandering human.

Evan: "Augh!"

He dropped to the ground like a stone, and pushed up to his hands and knees. Evan was NOT most people.

"I'm.... not.... wasting my life...."

He crawled toward Shen, clearly on the brink of defeat.

"You can't... lose what you don't..."

That odd purple light surrounded him again as he took a gamble...

"Have!"

He slammed his fist into the ground, and disappeared instantly, reappearing next to Shen and trying to grab her with his chaos-infused fist! What it would do, he wasn't exactly sure, especially considering her affiliation with Soul energy, but he had to try SOMETHING...

Shen looked at the oncomming blast and decided it was time. She focused her entire aura into the already formed Anima Orb.

Shen: "Deminsional Anima Bomb!"

The Anima Orb exploded into a much bigger orb, and she threw it towards Evan. When Evan hit the ball with his Stun Edge, it exploded. Anyone in its power, except Shen, would feel as if their soul had almost been ripped out. It would more than drain energy, but keep most people down for the count.

Shen: "And... I can't let someone waste their life..."

Evan: "And what? I can't trust you!"

Evan was a whirlwind of fist and foot, as he hurled himself toward the barrier and was thrown back just as easily. He kicked up to his feet, and clenched his fist. A bolt of lightning circulated around it, which he forced into a ball and hurled at Shen. As he threw, he leapt into the air and came down with an axe kick that released still more lightning, this time in a downward, slashing arc.

"Stun Edge!!!"

Shen didn't even turn around as her soul energy reached out and slowed evan down. She put her hand behind her, so that if he managed to get through the barrier, he'd run right into another Anima orb.

Shen: "I'm more capable than you, and no one will know I have them."

Shen sighed her soul energy started to come back into her.

Shen: "And..."

If Evan was still in her aura, he could feel the change come over her, even though she didn't say anything.

Evan was thrown to the ground by the force of his own attack, and felt his muscles shake as he tried to pull himself to his feet. Shen just walked away...

Evan: "What makes you think it'll be safer with you?"

He shut his eyes tightly and grunted as he pushed up to his feet. He couldn't let her get them!

"Stop right there!!!"

He dashed at her from behind this time, as she walked. His body burst into fire again, as he attempted an all-out flaming tackle to bring her to the ground!

Shen: "You're guarding something that can't be guarded."

Shen kept walking forward, she put the staff back on her back, deciding not to use it. She understood Evan now, it had been a lot easier since she went into Nirvana. Her soul energy sprung up again and drastically slowed and isolated Evan's attack. Shen caught his hand and as it exploded, it back fired due to the force from every direction.

Shen: "You should stop fighting... The world isn't resting on your shoulders... and no matter what you do... you won't be able to stop me."

Shen now started to move away from Evan, towards the entrance, and towards the shards. She needed them, and they would be safer with her.

Evan: "Why do you think? Why does anyone defend a place of power? Could it be because they don't want to LOSE it?"

The shards embedded themselves into Evan's clothing, and he let the tough leather protect him as he threw his arms in front of what little of his face was exposed to complete the protection. He let his arms drop to the side upon seeing the staff's light, and eyed it warily.

"Maybe a better question for this would be why do you desire it so strongly? To help someone?"

His fists became enveloped in red fire again as he hopped backward a few feet, ignoring the wind that came from the staff.

"I can guarantee you, the defense I am giving it now will help MANY more people in the future."

He dashed forward, punching once with a lone flaming fist, and again with his other fist, which expelled another huge burst of fire at Shen!

Shen didn't look up as she held a hand out in front of her and her soul energy appeared again as a wall. The flames hit it and went around, as if it simply lacked the force to go into the blue light behind the transparent blue wall. The wall seemed to turn to crystal and it broke up into pieaces and shot out at Evan.

Shen: "Why do you defend this place so strongly?"

Shen began to walk forward after her attack went through, grabbing the staff on her back for the first time. As soon as she touched it, the entire thing exploded into light, glowing radiently. The wind seemed to get unusually strong, as if anticipating something, and trying to warn Evan.

Evan: "Hm? What's this..."

She was different than before, he could feel it. How? He had no clue. Why? He could guess. The ease at which she deflected that disc and the alteration of reality that caused him to misjudge his kick was just the beginning, he could tell... And if she truly was different than before, there was a chance that she'd be able to beat him into the dirt with ease. What then? Then the shards would be easily accessible, then they would be hers for the taking...

And they might fall into the wrong hands.

Evan had to keep up his attack! There was no use at all in just sitting back and letting her come at him! He rushed at her, bringing his foot into the air for a roundhouse kick that went full circle! He then raised his hand to his face, snapped his fingers, and blew a hot burst of green flame out at her!
