Yes, he is in there. You get him in the Demon Guest House at the same spot as where you got the pendent in the original mode.
He knows Dracula's attack with the 3 fireballs. Sweetness.
He's pretty good but I wouldn't recommend using him in the game's last bosses like Death. I seem to have a hard time beating them with him.
Oh, and guess who you fight at the end of Julius Mode.
Spoiler: You fight Soma who is possesed by Dracula. There's a bad ass music playing during the fight. He also transform into the demon that Dracula transformed to in earlier Castlevania games. |

I finally beat this game.
98.4% Level 50 8 something hours.
I'm getting into Julius Mode now. Mind me asking though, do you get more characters in Julius mode besides the girl?
And are the rumors true about Alucard?
Anyways, I don't think this game beats SoTN, but it's up there. SoTN to me felt more diverse, and the level layout just seemed more original, while as DoS was just kind of a "keep going and killing things", and there wasn't really any exploration needed (like others said).
Still though, a great game, and definitely worth picking a DS up for. The music was incredible, the storyline was great, and the game just rocked hard, like all Castlevania games. |

Hey, my copy was $19.99 Canadian which was a pretty sweet deal given how horrid the exchange rate was back then.
Hm, on a PSX emulator... I use ePSXe to run the game and I think any slowdown that appears is due to the game itself and not the emulator. I occasionally get a weird occurance where the game slows down a little bit but usually pausing or entering a save/portal room speeds it up again, although I'm sure that problem can be fixed by playing with the optimal settings for the game. But yeah... it runs at 100% speed pretty much and the sound quality's good. |

I first played SOTN with a burned disc (Randy had a pirate flag on his dorm room door for a reason ), but I loved the game and wanted to own it legitimately, so when I came across a $10 used copy at a local store, I had to grab it. I'm glad I did because the game is quite difficult to find now. The only annoyance is that the HD Loader won't put PSX discs on the hard drive in our PS2, so I have to keep the disc handy every time I want to play. (We habitually load the PS2 games that we're currently playing...because we can and because convenience and decreased loading times are w00t). The burned copy is the original version, and the legit copy is Greatest Hits. The only difference I know of is that two Japanese familiars available only with a GameShark were removed in GH. And of course the case has an ugly neon green stripe on it, but I don't notice any difference in gameplay, so it's all good to me.
I just wish there wouldn't be as much slowdown when a lot is going on onscreen. I wonder if the bothersome parts of the game (like that courtyard with a bunch of Karasuman enemies in it) would run better on a PSX emulator. Colin, how much slowdown do you notice? |

I've been playing SOTN since I can't play DoS. It's actually the ONLY PSX game I legally own since I purchased it on a whim many years ago, then found out that VGS ran it on my Celeron at full speed for some insane reason. (Only have the Greatest Hits version, but meh.)
I'm about halfway through the second castle, but it NEVER gets old. Even if I don't really farm items. |

Has anyone else felt like revisiting SOTN after playing this? One of my favorite aspects of that game is that some of the enemies' rare drops are uberpowerful equipment that basically turns you into God. Nobody's forcing anyone to farm and equip this stuff, so I hardly think that its mere existence is ZOMG CHEEP AND BROXEN ROFLES, but if your idea of a fun time is running around slaughtering enemies without a second thought, there you have it. And that is my idea of fun. There is a ways to go before you can get this stuff anyway. I also think it's fun to level up the sword familiar to its max. Somewhere around level 80, it develops this very fast and efficient swoop/divebomb attack that looks cool (as if it's going back into the TV) and kills enemies before you can reach them, even if you are using God equipment. Pwnage is w00t.
So anyway, I just beat the game with something like 198% in ~6:30, including time spent farming my favorite weapons - a Crissaegrim and a Runesword. I was pleasantly surprised how well I managed although I hadn't run through it in literally about four years. My fighting skills were rather rusty, but I remembered the location of all the secrets. And I am now raising money for a Duplicator for even more pwnage. |

Ugh, I'm having trouble beating Death in Julius Mode. The bosses late in the game in Julius Mode are annoying, especially Aguni, the fire demon in the mirror. Anyone got any strategies for beating Death in Julius Mode.
EDIT: Never mind, I beat him along with the rest of the mode.

Originally posted by Scatterheart Ah, good stuff! Maybe the Student Witch would've been better than the Ranger Skeleton. In this PAL version, Frankenstein isn't even called that. He's called "The Creature". How original.
Actually, he's The Creature in the NTSC version, too. I just call him Frankie because that's what he looks like, and that way people who have seen the monster but don't know his official name will immediately know who I'm referring to. I'm guessing they used that boring old generic name because Frankenstein got copyrighted or trademarked at some point in the past. (Incidentally, this is why restaurant staff sing crappy original celebration songs instead of Happy Birthday, but that's another subject entirely.)
I'm now pretty close to the end, but I don't really feel like finishing up right away. Next time I pick the game back up, I'll be spending most of my time farming rare souls to upgrade my weapons further. I want that Crissaegrim-like ultimate sword, dang nab it. |

Oh! One other thing I'm not sure of if it's the same as the US versions: The game cover! All of my other DS games are first party titles, and they're in sleek little black covers. This Castlevania game though, it's in a clear-white-ish, crappy looking cover. I was just wondering if all third party games are like that. God it's ugly! |

And why would they do a name change like that for Europe?
You guys are all making me jealous. I've retreated to SotN as a result. |

Fabio - That sounds like a really good way for getting experience. I finally found the last few secret rooms (needed the FAQ), and now have 100% of the map. I've been working on collecting every single weapon, but I won't be able to, as you need to use a boss soul on a weapon which isn't even the best in its class. I already have the best weapon in that class, and the cons far outweigh the benefits to use another one on a simple weapon
I've gotten every single soul now (besides the boss ones I spent), and I've started Hard Mode. I hope it's not too hard. I at least hope I'll be able to use Rydain's trick when I get up to that part. |

Scatterheart - That first spoiler block is how I got the fundage for the soul eater ring. It is a pretty efficient moneymaking technique. I like using the Student Witch because you don't have to aim it and it kills everything quickly. |

I found a cool way to earn a lot of experience points.
Spoiler: Requirements: Flame Demon Soul Bat Company Soul (to get into the room for the first time) Mothman Soul Shaman Ring
In the Pinnacle, go to the room with the 4 Bugbears that are all right next to each other. You need to fly up with the Bat Company Soul to reach this room. This room is right above the save room that is close to the second Dario fight. Anyway, use the Flame Demon Soul to shoot a fireball that should kill all 4 Bugbears in one shot. You should get about 1100 experience this way. Exit to the left and come back and all 4 of them should be revived. Kill them again with a fireball from the Flame Demon Soul and exit left again. Keep on repeating this till you run out of MP. Once that happens, instead of wasting an item, you can exit the room by dropping down in the floor to the right of the room. The save point is to your left after you fall down from the room with the Bugbears. Just save to recover MP and keep on killing more Bugbears. |

There is an even faster way to make money. In the Lost Village there is a tunnel with five or so torches, just equip the Gold Ring and Black Panther soul and dash through there. You get a lot of $500 bags. |

8 hours!? I finally got this game a few days back, and I love it! I'm on level 67, 99.4% map completion, and 88.6% of souls collected. I'm yet to get the Frankenstein soul myself.
I found a cool little way of getting money in the game quite early into it - 3 hours, although you can do it much earlier.
Spoiler: In The Lost Village area, there is a room with 5 Zombies walking around. Throwing axes or shooting arrows takes them out very quickly, and it isn't too hard to quickly get 9 souls. Buy 9 Brass Knuckles, then upgrade them all to Cestuses. They sell for 3,000 gold each.
The easiest way to kill Iron Golems, is:
Spoiler: Just throw plates of curry at it, with the Waiter Skeleton soul, while shootig at it with a gun. They only have low health, so it doesn't take too long
I've gotten all of the best weapons, but I'm still striving to get at least 1 of every weapon.
This game is awesome! |

Yeeeees! HA HA FRANKENBERRY I PWN J00
(Translation: I finally got it. I wish I would have had it before the farking clock tower, though. )
There's a topic on the GameFAQs DoS board with soul drop rates. I forget what the source is and I don't know how reliable the numbers are, but the drop rate for Frankie was 2%. Unsurprising. I got quite a few levels (and tins of spinach) out of the process. |

Terror Bear (gotten from Boss Rush) and the Imp Soul combined will take down an Iron Golem in seconds. |

I remember trying to get the Frankenstein soul. I forgot how many I killed but it took a lot of kills to get his soul. I manage to get it without the soul eater ring but with the lucky 7 armor and 9 Ghost dancers.
I now have over 90% of all the souls and I'm trying to get the souls of the very difficult enemies like the Iron Golem. Man did it take forever to kill that Golem. |

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG
This really is worthy of its hype.
Rando beat the game while on his trip and we exchanged the DS for one with zero defects, and I got a turn on it on Thursday. I haven't slept very much since then. I don't know if I like this or SOTN better, but it's definitely as good as SOTN. It has everything I loved about that game - extensive map with lots of secrets, fun Super Metroid + RPG elements gameplay with a reasonable difficulty curve, umpty bazillion varieties of schwag to find (and farm from enemies). I especially like how you have an incentive to collect multiples of the same soul to level them up and have extras to use to strengthen your weapons. Now if only Frankenstein would drop his soul already. (Seriously, I've killed at least 500 of them, and I do have the lucky 7 armor, soul eater ring, and a few ghost dancers equipped.) |
