Although WikiRAM is up, its not fuctioning right. I need people who are willing to help the cause. They should know php. I would love to help alot of it, but I am busy. If your willing to help, the only thing that needs to be done is an extension file. I need an extension file to export and import NL files.

Well, the main question is "What do you want to see in a ROM hacking site"? For me, it would be:

-more than one game (unless you have A TON of info on one game)
-screenies!
-example patches and downloadable manuals
-offsets of things related to the games.

Those would be all I would really need. Oh yeah, and to keep the tradition strong:

This site has a nice layout, but it's only for Super Mario World, and it'd be nice to see markers for where the gaps are. Might consider something along those lines.

Good news, I have the advanced ROM/RAM adress repository up. Its called WikiRAM.

-You get an account
-You can put in large lists of addresses and annotate them
-no verification, i feel that you guys should be mature enough to discuss if the address works
-I still need to add exporting
-I still need to add importing
-There is a statistics profile for registered users

It should be finished soon, when I figure out how to work with this wiki stuff. Like setting up articles and what not.

I like how you ignored half the immaturity of this thread to point that out I might get around to checking it out, might not, who knows right? :p

The address idea is good, but just having people paste a big list of addresses in whatever format it's in (if that's how you're doing it) is not. What you'd want to do is have a database and an entry form, so that all the data is formatted the same way. Mine would look something like this:

#AddressDescriptionBytes
18011ABC0Current health2

Clicking the number would show or hide additional information such as who posted it, when it was posted, and any notes that go with it. For value lists, each list would be shown at the bottom of the page or on a separate page, and a link in the notes would link to the appropriate list. (Putting the lists in the notes isn't too great because multiple addresses can share a list, which would mean repeating it.) Also, it'd have a 'type' entry, to sort the addresses into categories like player info, enemy info, sound, etc. A user could choose to sort the addresses by address, description, author, date, or type, filter types (the main page would just list the types, along with an 'All Types' option, and the links would only show the specified type.

...I'll probably make something like that someday.

I think most others would have given suggestions, if they didn't think that a site simply to perpetuate your mind numbing commitment to self promotion wasn't a little flawed.

- Other users can vote on the annotation to verify it (kinda like http://www.urbandictionary.com/ works)
- If someone disputes an annotation he can add his own (then there are two or more annotations with the best-rated being #1)
- I want the possibility to export the annotations to XML files, NL files (FCEUXD SP) or into other formats (XML would be enough though, as there's XSLT which can be used to turn XML files into any format)
- Importing annotations from XML/NL files or just some kind of CSV file would be awesome too because people maybe dont want to enter hundreds of annotations by hand. Give the option to not add new annotations for addresses that are already annotated by someone else.
- Add statistics about which user added most annotations and stuff like that. This always boosts participation.

Yep, that's what I want.

I think rg_ is the only one who has actually said anything new, and he actually has a really good idea. Who knows, maybe one of these will finally happen..

I don't know about the Urban Dictionary style, but, as I mentioned in the "Warning" thread, we definitely have a need for some way for users to be able to contribute what information they have about rom hacking in general (to help the newbies), or about a specific game, where the information is compiled and can be easily browsed, rather than lost in the depths of a forum. The Urban Dictionary style is one way, Wiki is another. Anything along those lines would be massively beneficial, no matter how it's implemented, as long as it's sufficiently advertised enough to get people interested in adding their own content, even if it's just a copy and paste from this board.

I'm not trying to be mean, but that's a clear indication that you're going to have a lot of trouble making this work, if you don't even know the type of content you're supposed to be having. Usually you have something at the core, some project or service, then you make a website around that. As I mentioned in IRC, it's the same backward thinking that many seem to have when they say, "Hey, I want a board!". Then they get a board, centered around no particular topic and for no particular reason, and expect it be an instant success and actually draw members. You're trying to build a network out of thin air, basically.

i highly doubt that he is saying this without any ideas in his head. surely he has some idea.. just lookin for suggestions.

and what red said.
but also pages covering a certain game would be pretty awesome. for many games. IT'D BE NICE TO HAVE EVERYTHING ORGANIZED.
