TeddyLot hit a lot of good points and mcw noted something I'm seeing too. I think you need to make some adjustments in the neck area, there's clearly something amiss. But like Teddy said, it's good, but it's not really WOW. I love the hair though, and I appreciate your colouring abilities. I can sympathesize with what you said in regards to not being able to draw other things, except mine is the reverse, I have a terrible time drawing people and fanart, but then drawing paleoart is much easier for me. Overall, I'd try to take Teddy's points into note, especially the finger (how'd you miss that ) and the comments about gravity. Eh, and the wallpaper version, I don't know, Haru seems so static, she's not really her, I guess. |

I can do 30s without coloring. Does that count? |

Well, if you want you could show me your sketches, and I'd be glad to help you out in any way I can.
You could also try taking some art classes at a local community college or art center. I know teachers and deadlines have always gotten meaning and art work out of me. |

Teddylot -- when it comes to putting thought into my artwork... well, I do. But the problem is, anytime anything actually means something to me, I can't get it onto paper or screen any way I try. I can see the picture fully formed in my head, but I can't... make it happen....
I only seem to be good at willing senseless fanart/anime art into existence. :-/ If it actually means something to me, I can't make it exist. God it's frustrating.
I've been feeling really depressed and alone lately, and I was trying to express that with my art. Simple concept, just draw a girl standing alone under an umbrella in the rain, right? With people around, but all drawn back from her so that it's obvious she's alone, all of them faceless but staring at her... can't draw it. Have twenty sketches in my home directory, all fucked up. Not one of them is any good, not one of them looks anything like the picture in my head, not one of them conveys even 1/12th of how I feel.
But I can make a throwaway fanart of Haruko come into existence. :-/ |

It's alright, I guess, there's just nothing there that really makes me go "WOWEE!!!"
Probably just me.
Anyway, the artistic rendition's good, but there are a few technical flaws I'm noticing.
Uhmmm ... *stabbed with a stylus*
1) She's missing a finger. Actually, I'm guessing it's behind the neck of the guitar, but really shouldn't be, since guitar players use all four fingers when playing.
2) Strings aren't attached that way. The entire tuning section isn't done well. Normally, I wouldn't nitpick stuff like that, but since your characters are detailed and precise, so should everything else.
3) Never forget gravity. How is she holding up the instrument? Not with one hand and as loosely as that, for sure. Even if you meant to have it sitting on her hip, it still wouldn't work the way you have it. Besides, the area behind the guitar is also very loose, since there's no pressure on the guitar strap or folds in the shirt. You should really have the strap around her shoulder.
5) Anatomy and coloring. Good as always.
6) Folds are nicely placed on the shirt, but missing in the gloves, pants, and boots.
7) The wallpaper's background is pretty awesome. Nice and simple and clean.
Anyway, that's all for now. Although, I would like to leave on a final note. Taryn ... your stuff is awesome, but it's always the same. Some anime or game or whatever character in a pose. They're nice and all, but the more you put out, the more I go, "another one?"
No offense or anything, but maybe you'd want to start putting, as my teacher would put it, more thought into your work. Try and experiment with different techniques. Try different perspectives. Try illustration or sequential art (storytelling,) since those would be the mediums that would go best with your style.
Just saying. |

Well, I'm complete, and I've made it into a wallpaper as well
I'm going to link to my site, as it would be VERY inappropriate of me to post images this large here...
Wallpaper @ chibitaryn.net
Widescreen and regular versions available, high resolution so you can shrink it to the appropriate size as required.

A guitar player? She´s pretty cute, though.
Well done, Taryn. |

Yeah, I looked up Rickenbackers and referenced them for this picture so I think it's reasonably accurate...
and if it isn't, I'm beyond caring anymore

Why don't you give yourself a title? How about, "Superior Anime Artist"? Everything is so smooth and despite it's incomplete, it still beats a lot of other hand-made anime pictures. You rock, and so does your drawings! |

That's fricken sweet Taryn. Also don't worry if the guitar isn't that perfect seeing as practice makes perfect with things like that. |

Yes indeed, it IS Haruko
I'm looking forward to how that Rickenbacker turns out. It was fiddly, what with the left handedness and the detail and the fact that I don't know a fricken thing about guitars....
I believe I cursed guitars MANY times in the several hours I spent sketching, then inking it.
My housemate (being a musician and all) came over and I told him if he nitpicked, I'd stab him with the stylus. He went "uhmmm" so I stabbed him anyways. For thinking it |
