It happened to Betty Crocker. It happened to Aunt Jemima. And now it's happened to the Brawny paper towel guy.
We're talking make-over. The manufacturer was apparently hoping you wouldn't notice (calls to the company went unreturned) but the Avatar of Absorbancy is no longer the man he once was.
Or so astute shoppers were shocked to discover during a recent visit to the paper towel aisle of my local supermarket. There, side by side, were two versions of the Macho Mop-Up Man. A Tom Selleck-esque remnant of the Seventies, the old model has cut his hair, trimmed his 'stache, undergone reconstructive dentistry, bought colored contacts and even changed his shirt.
Sorry, Brawny. You still look like the Village People's idea of a lumberjack. If you really want a contempo look, lose the mustache, shave your head and get an earring. You don't see anyone messing around with Mr. Clean, do you?
