Pretty sure the copying thing comes up if it can't communicate with the security chip, so yeah, there's a bad connection somewhere. |

Ouch, super overkill.
The most expensive SNES games I usually see around here are like, Secret of Mana (usually $50), and a few others. I saw Earthbound yesterday for $80 though.  |

I know one place thats SNES Game heaven...went to it during the summer, only all the good games that are rare are expensive(FF2, $100, Chrono Trigger, $120) damn...cant remember the name for the life of me....if I remember ill post it. but they must have had well over 200 Snes games, most without cases or instructions, but yea. |

Thing is:
1. Do Funcoland's even still exist? (haven't they become Gamestop's, or is that just some areas?)
2. It's been a very long time since I've seen a Gamestop that sells anything older than N64 and PSX games, sadly.
Yeah, I have to buy all of my classic games at local state stores, or pawn shops and so on. |

I have the same SNES...My mom bought it for me back in like 1999, and really, I like its more modern look then the original. Also, I heard it fixed some hardware errors, and some other junk. The one I have has the same exact cable as the N64 and Gamecube that connects to the TV. Sorry I dont recall what that cable is called...Also, The release button on the old one was deemed dangerous to your cartridges, almost as dangerous as blowing in them (Picked it up off of GameFAQS last month). So yea, the new one is technically better, but it's more of what you prefer.
Your copy protection problem could be that you have a faulty cartridge or something is not being read on the chip.
Buy a game at Funcoland for like, what are they now, 6 bucks? Try it, and if it works, great your system is fine. If it doesn't... Ask this smiliey what to do :\ |

You may clean the metal casing in the Cart-Slot of your SNES, then it should work better. |

Okay. Kirby Dreamland... I got it to work. Sort of. It doesn't let me play because it gives me the "Copying Games is Illegal" message o.O
I'm assuming I'll have to borrow some games or lend out these so I can figure out if the machine or the games are at fault for these problems? |

thats the european version. notice it says "super nintendo" and on it. Here's another image of one that has "pal version" written on the cart slot.

never seen one of the newer snes models...still have my old snes though, got it from my cousin 6 years ago for Pokemon Red...also gave me 4 games....still have em all to, including SMW, Lttp, Mystic Quest, and another one...cant remember it though...not in the best shape, but thats just how most my stuff is. the controller is kinda broken, gotta get a new one...anways, that newer model kinda looks weird, I like the original one better. |

I never actually saw one of those newer SNES models in person, but some of my local stores were selling them for a very short time in the late 90s. They have no RF, and I've seen wireless controller receviers that probably wouldn't fit. I'm not sure if it has the bottom expansion port. Nothing outside of Japan used that, just like N64.
Pretty certain no compatibility issues exist game-wise. The system was often (always?) sold with SMW2, as in that picture. Try cleaning those games. Make sure not to use anything abrasive or strong chemicals. A cotton swab might work, unless it rips.
If you need a switchboard, that will much cost less than another SNES. They're $9.99 or 4 for $20! on this site, and includes the box>TV wire. http://store.yahoo.com/shoptronics/avauvisysesw.html
SNES video cables are identical to what comes with every N64 and GC. Very easy to find because of that. Type "audio video selector" into Froogle, without the quotes. Mine is a Performance brand, like many of my game accessories. I think they're a division of the now-closed Interact. |

I think I'm most definitly going to get a good, old-school Super Nintendo. This one can only use the... three differently coloured connectors, I forget what they're called. I only have one such line in, and it would compete with both my N64 and the GC... I don't have the money for a switchboard yet :s
So... is the problem with the games, then, since Mario Paint works perfectly? |

No RGB output? The original SNES has RGB output. Weird.

I've never actually seen an SNES that looks like the lower one in Xeolord's post Honestly, I like the top one better, but that choice may have been affected by that SNES "model" being the only one I've ever had a chance to use
As for the games not working, I'd say your ex-girlfriend keeping it in the closet and letting it get dirty has something to do with that, but if the games and console itself were stored together, then they could both be at fault. Also, as has already been stated, yes, Mario Paint requires a mouse to use, which could be a good thing, considering that even if you're able to use the controller, the cursor moves a lot more slowly (as would be expected). The bee swatting game is also pretty much impossible on higher levels without the mouse
Also, I believe Colin's link doesn't look right because there's a colon followed by a captial S in the URL, which the board interprets as a smiley, and thus tries to display the appropriate picture (in this case being ). Copy and paste the following URL into your address bar, then remove the space between the colon and the S in Snes if you want to see the picture:

Ah, you got the goofy looking SNES.
Really, if I were you I'd just save a good $30-$40 and look for a real, older model SNES. Besides that, I'm pretty sure that SNES you have doesn't even have an RF adapter slot in the back (or was it missing a video / audio output instead? I know it was one of those).
