I'd have to say Baldur's Gate II is pretty sweet, and you should definitely give Diablo or Diablo II a shot. KOTOR is another must.

WoW is good... Well, that's an understatement, WoW is godly, but also time consuming, especially in college. I cancelled my subscription to the game because I was afraid of it taking up so much of my time that I'd be slacking in schoolwork, so there you go.

Failing that, Guilty Gear XX: #Reload is good, if you can find it anywhere. A shitload of ROMs helps, too.

I adore Red Alert 2, but I kinda need to be in the mood to play it...

I highly recommend Battlefield (1942 / Vietnam / 2) as a FPS series. I worked out how to become the commander in Battlefield 2, it's sweet

I heard KOTOR 2 was lacking in the graphics department.

Kasumi: I'd only play Red Alert 2 to see if I could own Jeremy.

I'd try do what Kasumi said, WoW is great, you should really try it out through a guest pass and see how the connection does with it.

If you'd want to try a single player FPS, F.E.A.R. looks pretty promising.(Being released on 10/18, I think)

You can try out a demo here.

Whatever you do, don't waste a good new computer on Ragnarok Online, especially if it's a powerful one.

C&C Red Alert and Red Alert 2

Personally, I prefer the former, for the straight-forward simplicity of the gameplay. I haven't played much of the second game, but it's got an extremely good reputation.

The only real single player games I ever played on a PC are Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Icewind Dale. Not quite sure if that's your thing, but it's worth a shot.

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't had a problem running WoW at my school. Probably because your exact position doesn't matter quite as much as an FPS. If you are considering a game in the genre, I would definitely reccomend that.

The set of games I've been playing for the past while are old, but still sweet. Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics. First 2 are RPG, last is more strategy.

Neverwind Nights is a nice RPG, from what I've played of it (comp sucks), Disciples II is a good strategy game, and Icewind Dale II has a good mix of RPG and strategy.

i got fable for PC (leaked final version) and i got to the xbox portion of the game in 5 hours or so. if you do the sidequests (pointless sidequests) you'll add an extra couple hours to it. the "lost chapters" stuff adds another hour or two depending on how you developed your character. saying you can be good or evil was stupid because in the end you're still following the exact same storyline (just different explanations, ie. you killed party a because you wanted to save the world or you killed them because you wanted to be the evilest). it was kinda fun if you like hack and slash games but i dont think its worth full price for half a day of story/gameplay.

If you haven't already, make sure you get Half Life and Deus Ex.

Failing that, ask any of your friends at university if they have a copy of World of Warcraft and a guest pass. You should be able to test out your hardware and connection quality using that. I hate to break the "offline" thread of discussion, but World of Warcraft is really the must see gaming event of the year. It really is too good to miss.

Another fan besides myself and NSNick?

Deus Ex is by far one of the greatest games on our green Earth. It's a cyberpunk, futuristic, dark urban set game, with some of the coolest FPS / RPG elements ever, and by far has one of the most interactive worlds (you can find books and newspapers laying around the ground, and there is a ton of realistic and cool text to read in them), topped off with one of the best dark / trance / cyberish soundtracks, with one of the best storyline's ever. My first playthrough was a good 20 hours or so. The game is so compelling and awesome, I have gone back to beat it at least 5-6 times. It's very cause and effect also, your decisions can effect the output of the game.

Yeah, it's a fun game.

Just don't complain about the graphics, like the many others do ...

That, and System Shock 2, if you can find it. I've been meaning to find the game myself. Some people even consider it to be better than Deus Ex ... it's another Warren Inspector developed game, with the same FPS / RPG style to it. Only, I'm pretty sure it's more of a thriller (horror), and from what I played from the demo, it's much more cyberpunk (like BladeRunner stuff here) than Deus Ex.

Truly, I'd say these two games can pass as RPG's.

I guess I'd recommend the Never Winter Nights games also, I've heard some good stuff about them, just haven't played them myself.
The campaign editor is pretty insane though.

uh, yeah, if combat's an issue, I'd avoid Morrowind. That's really a lot better for exploring... or, if you're an archer, combat's not so bad. Personally, I love the game, but I'm not much of a combat-oriented person. I prefer just exploring aimlessly.

The expansions, by the way, are Bloodmoon and Tribunal.

And since Fable: The Lost Chapters isn't out yet (unless I missed something...), I wouldn't go by how long it's "supposed" to be. IIRC, Fable was "supposed" to be longer...

Morrowind.

You don't need anything else (that, and the expension, can't remember the name).

If you ever get tired of it, you download mods.

Black and White and the expansion is sold for $15 bucks because the sequel is coming out next month.

Actually, I've seen B&W at anywhere from $10-$15 around here for at least two years.
