When a good ol' question get's asked again, and a newbie was to ignorant to search for it first, just close his thread with a predefined response, telling him to read the stickies first, all of them. then post. Oh, and be coherent enough in english to comunicate with others on a understandable basis.

If he asks why, just close the thread with another predefined response.

You need to be consequent, out of principle, or noobs won't get it. (I speak from experience, in real life).

Its not stickied because newbies ignore stickies.

I just hope i have never done such a thing.(but i probably have)

Why is this thread not stickied yet?

I think any thread with an non-descript title should be closed instantly.

Also, SoNotNormal, your layout is messed up.

I'll take a wild guess and assume some people do it just so more people will look into their post. I don't see the reason for this. It's about as effective as naming your topic "Help me with Map16Page.BIN" instead of just "Help me with..."

Just so everyone knows, I'm with BMF on this one. It's really annoying when you actually have to enter the thread before you even have an inkling what it's about.

Of course, this is a relatively minor infraction compared to other things. Don't do it often and it won't even end up on your permanent record.

That's probably one of the biggest problems. People who don't speak English well (or use a translator, even moreso) may not realize there's a problem.

I do that too... Perhaps this could have been a forum announcement, like the IPS announcement in the rom hacking forum. Ultimately, there isn't anything you can really do to stop the n00bs from making vague titles, just like GP said.

Nice ones BMF, but I think you forgot these too

"Help me"

-That's like, the most common one.
OR, my all time favorite . .

"How do you . . "

You're right though, there are a ton of nondescript thread titles. I mean, it is by n00bs and stuff, but there are still kinda annoying . . I prefer reading what the question is in the thread title instead of reading a lecture inside the thread

Feh. It's the n00bs who will make this mistake, and long after this post descends into obscurity the n00bs will still be there, making incorrect titles. You'd need a sticky just to be mildly effective (not that we need another one), and even then you can bet sometimes it'll be ignored.

Basically this is something everyone should pay attention to (unless you want to make a _good_ joke thread, but not in that forum), but even if you stickied it - there are people who download ROM hacks don't read announcements like that one about how to deal with IPS patches in ROM Hacking's forum announcement.

And I think this forum is too overcrowded with Stickys. That doesn't go to the moderators since every Sticky here has its purpose - and if you will start editing threads, you will have a lot to do.

I might suggest, but that post might better fit into Help/Suggestions -> Adding a subforum for the Stickys and put them into there, to make _another_ Sticky, but that one might contain links to the previous Stickys:

So, let's say, we have "Sticky 01, Sticky 02, ... until Sticky 1F", then all present Stickys might be unstickied maybe moved to a safe place not messing up with the current places - and a NEW Sticky might point to the existing ones - this might save space.

If you placed this Sticky in top of it just now - then there is only two Stickys; and people might read that one faster than thinking "Pffft, why should I read dozens of threads when I just want to patch my ROM ?". As stated, the threads have their purpose, but I simply think in that number of stickied topics even that one will be not furhter noticed.

You might start out like Jesper's idea of wanting people to add a legend/symbol in front of his/her threads - so at least some of the people could classify the post even if the title was wrong:
[ASM] - ASM related question
[SS] - Screenshots and so on ...
So a "[SS] My hack ..." tells at least more than

"My hack ..."
So what might it be then ? His/Her hack is lost, dumped, evil, eats children ?

Okay, I'm certain this has been posted before, but I guess I need to explain it again. There are WAY too many nondescript threads and thread titles clogging up this forum. Examples:

"I need to know..."
Nondescript title. It says nothing about the question inside. ANY question could have this title.

"Do you upload ItemFix.IPS this post?"
Nondescript post. What is ItemFix.IPS? What does it do? Most of us have never even heard of it.

This needs to stop, particularly the nondescript thread titles. What if, sometime in the future, somebody needs the information in your post? Do you honestly think they're going to be able to find your thread if it has a useless title like "NEED HELP!?"

I'm going to start editing thread titles and closing/deleting threads that fail to meet these guidelines. There is simply too much useful information disappearing into the shadows, and because nobody can find it amongst the endless sea of old topics, the same questions are getting asked OVER and OVER again.

Thread titles can be up to 100 characters long. Posts can be...uh...much, much larger. Make good use of the space! Be descriptive!
