I use mine for N64 just fine.  It's laid out almost perfect for it.
A - 3
B - 1
C^ - 5
Cv - 4
C< - 2
C> - 6
L - 7
R - 8
Z - Left stick
Start - Right stick
D-pad - D-pad 
You can press the sticks like a button, like on PSX controllers. For some games it's best to swap Z and L, but for the most part it works great. |

Mine's just like HH's, but the colors and text are a bit different. Hrm. I think mine's also a P880.
It works well enough for anything SNES or older. Not enough buttons for anything past that... |

Having Gameport or USB won't make a huge difference - I just got USB ones due to laziness to install drivers. Plug it in -> Use it fifteen seconds later in ZSNES.
An IRQ conflict also is impossible since the sound chip is on the mainboard |

I use a Skillz Cube connection, not sold anymore, if i'm not mistaken, and abuse a moded HORI-Pad for Game Cube (I.e., it's a SNES-Pad wich a can use on my Computer and Game Cube).
I would recommend you an old Logitech Thunderpad Digital, like I have one, I would sell it to you. But it's Gameport. |

Well, it has an USB connector, so there might not be the need to install additional software
And I also have the Logitech Gaming Software on my PC, still from my Logitech Dual Action pad - it claims that these games can be played using a gamepad 
Playing StarCraft BroodWar with a gamepad ... sure (Yes, I know about the N64 version as well)

Here's a HUGE image of the P880. Mine looks exactly like this (except the electrical tape over the light, because it's too damn bright at night when I use it to control movies). It's nice but I don't suggest using the included software. |

Thanks for opinions, but it might be that my pad still works - but the Saitek one from HyperHacker really might be to check out, when the current one is dieing (d-pad losing accuracy later).
I just play better and better - although I still suck in Tetris Attack compared to other ones, I constantly get better (Improved my time from about 44 to 37 minutes in Endless-to-99999-points).
But KP9000's theory is right for the pads I got until now - even some expensive pads might wear out pretty fast; on the other side friends recommend Microsoft's Sidewinder pads ... I don't like them too much anyway. |

I built my SNES PC Gamepad. All you need are a DB25 port and connnector (the big huge parallel printer cable) some diodes and a SNES pad. If you send me the controller and stamps to ship it back, ill build it for you. I can also leave the SNES port on there so you will still be able to use it on a real SNES. |

I have a 10 button USB gamepad, that lasted a year and it's about $6.40. The specs are here. Search for gamepad in the search textbox. The one that i use is the gray one, but i bought the green one also recently. The problem with these is that the autofire sucks  |

I use a Saitek gamepad too. But I've only got the P220.... works like a charm though, I've had it for over a year.
Only got a D-pad, L + R, and 6 buttons though.. |

Radioshack's PSX->USB converter is cheap and no need to import it from some Asian country. |

I'm using Super Joy Box for the job. 2 port PSX/2 --> USB conversion. Works flawlessly. About 20 bucks for it US. |

I heard already about Saitek's gamepad HH uses, They also are sold here, just need to check the model but I'm sure. Weirdly I broke my own record today with my pad (don't laugh: 38 minutes for an 99999-run, before it was 44 minutes ).
And as long I can the pad to work with its driver only (if it is a non-USB model), I'm satisfied - with USB-models there should not be a problem  |

I use a NYKO Airflo Ex, I don't know if you can get it in germany but other than a few problems every once in a while, it works fine. |

I would just shell out however much for a controller to USB converter I picked up a PSX at my local Radioshack for about $11. |

I know this is not the first thread about that, but since most of the pads I tried either wear out pretty fast (maybe they are not supposed to work with games like Tetris Attack longer then two or three months  ) or the digital direction pad is not precisely enough, I don't know what is the best one, and which might be available also in Germany - like Logitech or Microsoft's products.
Currently I use a Logitech Precision USB gamepad. It is one of those PC pads in PS/PS2 layout, but this one doesn't have an analogue stick. Another pad from Logitech I have (Logitech Dual Action), actually has two sticks, has the same layout but the left stick doesn't work anymore probably after three months. I opened the pad, applied some WD-40 on it and pushed the petitiometers to fix that later, like it was recommended from people in a forum who have the same low-life issue with these, but it doesn't last even five minutes now - it is broken for good. The d-pad of it anyway was very unrelibable, unlike the one from my Logitech Precision which I use - until now
My Logitech Precision pad slowly wears off - after about a little more than two months of usage for PSX, NES and SNES emulation.
Is there a good pad which has an ass-kicking durability or are there cheaper ones which cost you a very low amount of money but have a life span of at least two or three months and you buy the next one then (I know that sounds dumb, but except the real PSX/PS2 pads I never had pads which provided a long-year stability and functionality) - I don'T want to use an PS to USB-adapter, since I have currently no PS or PS2 and therefore no pads for it. These adaptors also may be expensive, plus shipping and a new pad of course to use with.
So, what do you recommend for a pad ?
If it _has_ good analogue sticks, I might consider it as well for N64 emulation, but a better one with a good-responding d-pad also works well.
