Yeah, but it's so accurate, like it could easily be made into a real level.

I've always been obsessed with video games; especially Mario games, and I always used to draw them for fun, and I would just want to put it on the game so bad, but I was probobly 8 during that time when SMW was about 3 years old. I don't draw for a level design now(even though it could be a smart idea) but I design very good without having to draw on paper. Like Hyperhacker said, I think it would be ideal to draw Overworlds on maps so ou can get the basic idea, but then again I have a big imagination, and i'm a good drawer. It goes different for different people I guess.

Wow, that's amazingly accurate for something you drew 10 years ago. Especially given that LM isn't even 10 years old.

Before I realised that there is a tool like Lunar Magic I did level design only on paper. It wasn't really playable that way but as was fun for me to do shit like this. I drawed severeal Mario-related-levels, but not really a complete game, off course.

But I also finished a complete 100-level-game only on paper. I tried to "copy" some of them with LM in my Mario-hack, too, but if you ask me, it's boring. It's much more fun to create new stuff.
So there will be only two "paper"-level in my upcoming hack. For example, this one will included in SRPII:

I drawed this ca. 10 years ago if I remember right.

This is a really interesting topic...

I haven't been able to devote the time to a complete hack yet, but I've made a few levels that I'm quite proud of.

I never start a level on paper. I make the level in LunarMagic, start to finish, and then review what I did. I usually find a ton of stuff I don't like about the design, so I delete that stuff and put new ideas in their places. Then I repeat that process again and again until I've created a level that I'm entirely satisfied with.

It's a pretty time consuming method, but my levels turn out great in the end (or at least, I think so).

Since I'm at school a lot, I usually put down my ideas on paper to test them out. I actually still have some sketches of a really cool level I designed... somewhere.

I often draw Mario levels to paper. In school I sometimes draw some doodle where are Mario and emenies destroying something (school , town etc) and write to top Mario's attack to ... Uhh. This was probadly off-topic so now topic: When I think up some good part of Mario level , I draw it to paper. If this look good on paper , I archive It.

I did that for one level in my hack, only that I encountered one big problem: Size, it's over 100 screens long. way over 100 screens.

Ahh, good memories. I should get myself some grid paper and do it just like the old times.

At least you had some imagination - my levels were full of cement blocks

I never make levels on paper anymore. Mainly because I draw an awesome level, have amazing ideas and everything, and as soon as I get home from school to put it on LM, I lose the sheet. So now I just make up the levels as I go along

Well... I might as well tell you all the key to my kick-ass OW...

I draw them on graph paper.

Using a 21x21 graphing area.(i forget the dimensions... i THINK it was either 21x21 or 31x31 )

Each of the small squares is a 8x8 OW tile. every four is a level/path

Now go and make your OW's...

(I forget the dimensions of the sub-maps. i know there length...(1/2 of the 21x21/31x31 OW) i forget their height.

I've never really done that, as I can barely draw...

I did a few levels on paper, but what I liked the most was making overworlds.

Yeah, I remember that when the admins fixed the board, but some post count was lost... the strange thing was... I was logged on the board when they fixed everything.

Anyway, when you design levels on paper, you make your own PprGFX (PaperGFX... pun) then try to add it on a blank GFX file for your hack, or am I the only that does it?

No, someone hacked the board and messed up all the user names and ID's. The admins fixed it all already though, only things lost were postcounts.

On-topic - I hardly ever make levels on paper, since my right brain doesn't work then. I find it much easier to put it directly in Lunar Magic.

Hello again everyone

Thanks for your replies - it's nice to know that i was not the only person on this earth who used to draw their own levels Thanks for your input on that.

I desingned part of a level on paper the other week - there are things to watc out for tho like the P switches being either blue or silver depending on x location which is easy to forget when working on paper (as i found out!)

Oh and btw - I was offline for about a week due to computer problems and have been having trouble getting back onto this site ever since until just trying now. I feel a little shamed lol being a newbie, posting a few times on my first day and then buggering off for about 2 weeks. Was this site down recently or was taht just me?

This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
