Have both, this and Mega Collection. Enjoy both. Although, admittedly, all I play on Gems is Sonic the Fighters, Sonic R (I'm good with Amy. If any of you have played the game, you know how relevant this smiley is: But of course, if I'm SERIOUS, I'll use Metal Knuckles), and Sonic CD...

Kinda feels like the GG games are filler, in a way. I don't mean to discredit them - Triple Trouble, what little I've played, seems to be a good enough game - but... couldn't they at least touch up the sound clarity a bit? Of course, it seems that every 2D Sonic game on this collection (all but R and StF) has quieter sound than the Genesis ones, so maybe I'm just not used to that...

With the older Sonic Mega Collection for the GameCube, I didn't really enjoy myself. So, I have no intention of buying the Sonic Gems Collection. I wasn't around during the Sonic-era, so the memories weren't in the games for me.

I got my copy of Sonic CD for $9.99 in a collection with Sonic R and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

I don't want to play any of the other games.

Considering there are patches out that allow one to play Sonic CD in Windows XP (normally it can't, I believe because it won't run unless it's in 256 color mode etc.)...

Oh yeah, this collection is totally not a ripoff.

I believe all three SoR games were in there, yes. Doubtful that they pulled out Game Gear games to boot.

I must play Sonic CD one day, I hear that's pretty much the only "must-have" game in the collection.

Eh, I hope not. I could careless to even attempt to beat the majority of the games on this.

All I've been playing is Sonic CD. Unlocked everything from Time Attack, Time Attack Special Stages, the music menu, Visual Mode, and so on. Now I just need to go through it and get the good ending.

Yoronosuku: It does have the entire SoR trilogy right? I wouldn't want to be misleaded and end up only being able to play the first one.

Here is my take--I bought the Japanese one, and I ultimately did have a bunch more fun with it..SoR was an amazing series! I think it was very stupid that OSTs change by region too..I never will get the point why games have to change so much. I know there is a big cultural differance but even after I lived in America for a while I do not see what big difference would make them take out entire parts of games. . . are they to mean that the cultural difference is that American game designers are a bunch of dorks that only want money? I hope this is not true ._.;; At least the Japanese game desingers give something for the money..

You know the time trail mode, with all or the mega collection games, where it starts you off at the last boss and you have a set time to beat it? Well, they're actually the full games! Take sonic 1 for example, beat the last boss, it brings you back to the title screen. Do the level select cheat, and choose any level. They'll all be there, in their full form. Frankly, Sega screwed most people over

Ah, so that isn't just some GameFAQ's crap that I read.

So, how exactly do you unlock this stuff?

... but, is it just more Sonic GG games, or the Genesis ones?

I feel disappointed too.. lucky I didn't pay for this game.
My brother got it and I checked it out. It doesn't seem worth it at all unless you must have Sonic CD. I never had a Game Gear growing up, but none of the games on this collection really get me to sit and play for a long period of time.
I just browsed GameFAQ quickly.. looks like the emphasis on unlockables this time around is in the artwork.

Vectorman is sorta cool.

I wish Sega wasn't so stupid and just crammed Mega Collection Plus with this (with both SoR and Vectorman) and sold it all for $50.

Now THAT would have been something worth buying.

Nintendo also didn't want to licence Boogerman first, but Mortal Kombat 2.

Gore with no end, loping off heads, yes, but a hero "attacking" with farts and ... bogger, no

And I will never understand the reason behind that.

Again, my arguement: Comix Zone was packaged in with the PS2 and Xbox versions of Sonic Mega Colleciton, and yet that game, in which there is blood when you throw knives, you fight demonic monsters, etc, did not grant it a Teen rating, but the SoR games would? Yeah.

Apparently if they did, it would grab a Teen rating and Sega would look really dumb selling a Sonic collection rated 13+.

It's very strange that they didn't bundle SoR with the western versions, that game had much more fans over here than the western bundled games... That's a huge disappointment

It seems fine and dandy. I don't ever remember the music cyclying though, I thought it looped.

There was one part when I was in a Special Stage, and all of a sudden was just kicked out of it and put into the next level. Not sure if it was a glitch, or something, but it was weird.

But really, it seems almost perfectly fine.

Edit: The music is what makes the game, you really need to play with the music.
US OST, or Japanese, both in my opinion are incredible.

So how is the port of Sonic CD? Faithful to the original and such?

I played it for a bit via emulator, though I don't think I had music with mine.

Meh. I've got that covered, I plan on buying a Freeloader for one of my memory cards.

So, yeah.

Well I picked up Sonic Gems a few days ago, and it was so good playing Sonic CD once again after all these years when I wasn't able to (Mom sold my JVC X' Genesis+Sega CD console years ago, then my Sonic CD PC game broke, so I've been waiting).

But other than Sonic CD, this package just doesn't seem that great. Sonic R is fun, and the fighting game isn't that bad, but it still seems lacking. I really don't care for the GameGear games on here, yeah I liked playing them back in the day, but playing GG games on the TV just looks and feels really weird and out of place.

On top of this, the only games that I know of that are unlockable so far are Vectorman and Vectorman 2, which I already own for my Genesis (both).

So really, I only bought this collection for Sonic CD, and Sonic CD alone. Was it worth it? In my opinion, yes. I love Sonic CD to death, and it brought back great memories, but other than that, this product just seems sloppy.

-However-, I do still plan on picking up the Japanese version of Sonic Gems in time. Why? Streets of Rage Trilogy my friends, that makes this such a better package.

I mainly bought the US version because I played and grew up playing Sonic CD with the US OST, and loved it, so I just wanted to play it again like that. But, I've heard the Japanese OST also, and I wouldn't mind experiencing the game with it, plus Streets of Rage.

So, short story short, if you do not like the US OST to Sonic CD or something, I really would not recommend the US version of this game at all. Save your money, and buy the better package, that includes the classic Streets of Rage Trilogy.
