I got it installed, but in a strange way. It's running fine with no bracket. Though, my first idea was to shorten it with a hacksaw (I actually tried this!), it didn't even shave a bit off the metal. |

Yes, if you have a 486, with no PCI slots, you're shit out of luck.
I don't think he's worried about breaking the $10 card as much as he's worried about breaking the more expensive (and PITA to replace) motherboard. |

You shouldnt worry about breaking it, even if you do, these things are cheap. Make sure your alignment is perfect. And if you have an old computer, chances are its not compatibles. |

Sometimes, the backplates can be bent in a way that prohibits proper installation. Look and see where the card is when the backplate goes into the slot - if the card is behind or ahead of the PCI slot, you will need to bend the backplate accordingly. |

In what way? Blocked by an invisible force doesn't help in describing. However, if you have a card already in a PCI slot, take that one out, and stick the network card in that, and the other card in an empty pCI card slot. Otherwise, get another network card. |

Inserting a PCI card shouldn't take too much force.. just make sure nothing is blocking the path and that it is indeed a pci slot.. try another slot if that wont is giving you problems. |

um...this is a tougie...i'm guessing you are using the right slot...but, have you tried orienting the card in such a way that one part of the card does not go into the slot before the other?
if you are doing that...then maybe you have to shave a small amount off from one end of the card. anyways, it isn't my fault if you break the card by doing that |

I recently got a PCI ethernet network interface card (I'll need this for DSL), but am having trouble getting it into any slot. My other cards fit just fine. This one seems to be blocked by some invisible force. What should I do? Forcing it down might break my hand, or the device itself. It's very small too. |
