I have WinXP SP2 and sometimes go in Knoppix 4.0 (Linux Live-On-Dvd)..
I found this Linux way easier then others.
I had installed this Vista beta on a new partition a few days ago and found it nice graphically, but way too slow for my computer. I mean even after playing with services.msc, explorer.exe did eat way too much ressources. Well It didn't took long for me to uninstalled it. I guess betas are like that anyway. I shall wait for the final product release. |

A beta of Windows is just that - A BETA. It's not to be used for serious OS consideration, it's made for people to play around with until the real version is released.
And Xkeeper: I have Windows XP installed on a 450MHz laptop, and it runs faster than Win98 did on it. And I'm sure 2K would run no faster. If you keep the XP themes on, it's slower. But if you disable them, you get basically a more evolved version of Windows 2K. |

My family has Windows 98 SE and Windows XP SP2. I like Windows XP SP2, because it's more secure (with SP2 and automatic updates), graphics are more fancier, and I never get BSODs with it, which are, to me, the horrors of the Windows 9x series. I like Windows 98 SE, because it's simple and classic. But I like XP SP2 better than 98 SE. |

Debian (temporal account)
Linux is user friendly depending on the window manager used. As for me, the most comfy is KDE |

I've tried Linux (Fedora Core 3), and it wasn't very fun to use at all...
Installing it was hard enough, since it wasn't very friendly with the screen and I couldn't tell what half of it was (the screen wasn't updating in parts for some strange reason) and a lot of times programs would crash or just not run right...
Then I switched to Win 2000. I never get a crash (unless RO crashes or something) and I've managed over 40 days before a power outage did me in 
I've had very bad experiences with Macs (they really like to crash/freeze for no reason) so I tend to avoid them, and I don't like the style of that stupid little bar thing at the bottom and various other junk.
In short: I've grown accustomed to Windows 98 and above, hate XP because it takes forever to get to a usable point on a computer almost three times faster than this (800mhz vs >2GHz) and is just a pain to deal with through all of the stupid features they put in.

Have you ever installed Mandrake? Very easy to set up there. I didn't like it, personally, but it was certainly easy. None of that serial number crap either. |

I use WinXP SP2 but th sexy look of Linux is awesome. Thank god for Window Blinds so I can make it look like Linux .
Macs look nice, but I hate them .
Windows Vista looks really awesome too tho...... |

Windows XP. I have a PC (obviously) and have never used Linux/don't want to mess around with it just yet, so it's the obvious choice. |

When I get a new PC, I'll install a Linux distribution on it.
I've used Linux before, and I think it's better than either Mac OS X or Windows. |

Mandrake 8.x or something, but it booted slower than ass. Yes, I know some versions install easier than others, and some boot faster... but if it doesn't come ON the PC, the average Joe will have to install it himself.
That means formatting into Linux-compatible FS, making a swap partition, etc etc... A bunch of bullshit basically. |

Yeah, Linux is steadily becoming more popular lately. And some distros are easy to use now even.
Let see, I use Windows XP, Slackware Linux and MS-DOS if it's an really old computer like my 486. (who have Windows 95, but I rather use DOS than that. Go figure.)
And Tomguy, you have to realize that there is alot of Linux distros out there. Some of them are easier than installing Windows. Besides i'm sure there is alot of people who would get stuck on a Windows installation. Most of the time I would say Linux isn't hard, just really diffrent at some things. After getting hang of Slackware there is severeal things I miss in Windows XP, such as a powerful CLI. And well, Linux boots rather fast on some distros. I suppose you have used Red hat in the past, which is slow as hell...
I still use Windows XP as a main OS though. I mostly used my Linux distro for testing.
There is not much switching in the server world, people who used Unix in the past switches to Linux most of the time. And people who use Windows 2003 server most likely switched from Windows NT 4.0 or something.
I gotta get around testing FreeBSD someday. |

Yeah, and more and more people are switching from Linux to Windows. Especially servers.
Linux never has been and never will be mainstream. It's not user-friendly enough, too complex, pain in the ass to install, incompatible with 90% of what people want to use their PC for, and slow to boot. |

I use Windows XP. Got SP2 pretty recently. I´m fine with it since I haven´t had any major problems with it.

I wouldn't say "the only one"  My computer at home is running Windows XP Home SP2, and I'm quite satisfied with it. While I realize that there are numerous security holes and such in it, most, if not all of them require an internet connection, and let's just say that isn't a problem at home
As long as it does what I need it to, without making a fuss, it works for me
However, here I'm using Windows 2000 Professional SP4, but depending on which computer I need to use, that could change to Windows 95 or 98 SE as well.
