No. It must be version 1.0, as it says right on LM's download page.

The rom needs to be in .SMC (or .SFC for the Japanese version) format. Not zipped. Make sure it's version 1.0 or 1.1, I doubt LM has support for PAL-region roms. SMW in all-stars might work, but the GBA version won't. Or:

1.0/1.1 US = yes
Japanese = yes
With all-stars = ?
PAL regions = not that I'm aware of

None of these can work if the file is compressed (ZIP, RAR, etc). Most standard rom sites use them because they need less space. Make sure to unzip a rom file before editing. Emulators usually allow zipped roms, editors don't.

You can open the rom with write-protection, but you can't save the edited levels in LM!

Your rom must be v. 1.0 or 1.1, I think and must have a 0x200 header.

>>>XD is correct. Normally I would hound orynider for that blank post but I agree, there's really nothing to say.

a .zip is a compressed file, you have to extract it with a tool such as winzip.

I think he's referring to the Lunar Magic tool again. It is quite a confusing post.
I wish I could help, I've never had that problem (well, there was that one virus that kept corrupting LM....darned winparite....).
