I'm gonna do separate lists:

ARTY, POIGNANT DELICATE LITTLE MOVIES
5. Being John Malkovich - Just bumps Amelie
4. Americn Beauty - Gotta love Spacey dying with a smile on his face
3. Magnolia - A little long, but the movie made my draw drop and left me speechless on three separate occasions.
2. High Fidelity - Cusack's ability as a sort of awkward, dorky, self-aware everyman, coupled with music geekery.
1. the Royal Tenenbaums. Sublime, subtle, beautiful, perfect.

MINDFUCKERY
5. Requiem for a Dream - great, powerful, but just a little *too* harrowing to just thrown on any old time.
4. Fight Club - probably one of the defining movies of our generation
3. Momento - so clever
2. Se7en
1. Silence of the Lambs - Respect, ok? One of the true classics, best villain ever (fuck you, Vader)

FUNNYNESS
5. Life of Brian
4. Battle Royale - YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? Maybe it's not intended to be funny, but I read it is a very black comedy.
3. the Big Lebowski - perfectly orchestrated comedy
2. Mean Girls
1. Holy Grail

GEEKERY
5. Kill Bill taken as a single entity
4. Empire Strikes Back
3. Pirates of the Carribean - a little too G-rated but what can you do?
2. Sin City - New but brilliant
1. The Indiana Jones trilogy. Can't top it, sorry Star Wars geeks, but Indie had the better strikerate and lumping them together is the only way other movies even get a look-in.

And overall, I'd have to say the Royal Tenenbaums.

Jedi is a close second to Empire, but you didn't even have Empire on your list!

Training Day
I loved everything from the plot to Denzel's performance. He plays a corrupted cop and he has to train a rookie and the veteran cop has his own way to patrol the streets that doesn't always go with the rules of being a cop.

Butterfly Effect
Ashton Kutcher had a good performance to playing a serious role and did a decent job. He tries to fix the past but it ends up screwing up the present and future even more.

Once Upon A Time In Mexico
The effects were sexy, I liked the script in some ways it was funny the plot was okay. Banderas was coolio..again.

Shrek movies
Funny, sexy, good movies for the entire family.

Hitch
I love Will Smith and I like Eva Mendes too. The script could have been better and a few other things. Predictable movie but I likeded it.

Kill Bill
The series is the hotness

The Friday Series
Ice Cube is off the hook. I love this series, so funny

1. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Okay, not really different from NSNick, but yeah.

Truly I like the majority of ESB and the atmosphere / setting way more than that of RoTJ's, but seriously, in my opinion RoTJ has the most epic and dramatic ending segment I have ever seen in a movie. Each time I watch it and see Vader turn around to pick up the Emperor and become the true hero that he is, I feel like tearing in joy (seriously ... ).

2. Jurassic Park: I just love this movie. I've grown up a Sci-Fi buff, and a big fan of Dinosaurs. It's just one of those movies I saw at a really young age, and I've always loved it even until today.

3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King: Very epic and awesome ending movie to an incredible series.

4. Total Recall: One of the coolest futuristic movies I've ever seen.

Just a few to mention.

The Mad Max movies are one of my personal favorites. Basically the movie is based in a time where gas is so valuable, people kill each other over it. (No it's not based in present times ) The

Hard-Boiled - Possibly one of the greatest action movies ever made. Stars Chow Yun-Fat, I think it is one of his first roles. This is a chinese film, made in 1992, in a simpler time, where pistols didn't have 10 or 12 bullets, they had 47. An era in film making where killing innocent bystanders was ok, if your a chinese policemen. The main character is named Tequila, which is badass enough, and he pretty much shoots first and dosn't give a damn afterward. The movie has a 45 ending, where they have a shootout in a hospital.

and countless other movies I won't go into now.

Top 5!

5: Starship Troopers. The Earth's Mobile Infantry fight against a race of enormous space insects that threaten to destroy mankind. Follow the story of Johnny Rico and other soldiers, as they defend their home planet from the monstrosities! Awesome effects, and a great cast (+ titties) make this one to not miss.

4: Tremors. In the small town of Perfection, Nevada, a subterranean race of gigantic worms, that can detect seismic readings, attack the denizens of the dusty town. That is, unless, Burt Gummer, Earl Basset, and Val McKee (Michael Gross, Fred Ward, some other dude, I forget his name) have anything to say about it! A high-octane sci-fi romp through the desert with awesome effects and a great plot.

3: Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Two dopers, whose lives, inherintly, suck, decide to go White Castle after getting blazed. But after Burger Barn bought out the White Castle in New Brunswik, NJ, Harold and Kumar have to go another 50 miles to the next one, but not before going to an Asian titty fest, being stuck in a girls bathroom with "diarreah twins", riding a cheetah, and almost having a foursome with a guy named "Freakshow" and his wife! This is one awesome smoking movie, filled with weed and titties! Sure to please!

2: Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness. An average S-Mart worker, Ash never thought he'd be the one to be transported to medieval England, thrown into a pit of she-bitches, and stop an army of Deadites! Join Bruce Campbell as "Ash", as he is sucked into 1300's Europe, and kicks ungodly amounts of ass with his Boomstick, chainsaw, and his 1970's Chevy! "Groovy."

1: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. If this needs an explanation, then NSNIck and I will beat you to within an inch of your life.

Shaun of the Dead.

They took a good story, and threw in the key gimmick element second. In other words, it's like the tagline says; "A romantic comedy...with Zombies."

It would have been easy to do a simple parody of the genre I love, but instead, they wrapped a superb story around it, and made it much more than what I had first expected. A superbly zombilicious masterpiece that easily holds it's spot as my favorite movie.

That's too bad. I'll admit it got messed up with the whole love connectino between Arthur and Trillian... and the Deep Thought sequence was done HORRIBLY... but I was just too happy seeing it in a movie to care that much.

It's really hard to choose.
The Lion King and Alice in Wonderland I loved as a child, and watched countless times. Good memories.
Also Kill Bill, for countless reasons. Who saw that coming.

I am proud to be the only person who loved the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy book, and didn't like the film at all.

By "a bit", he clearly means "the same standards as the 'what are you listening to?' thread".

Or at least I'm guessing he does if he wants this thread to stay open. (If local mods could post forum announcements, you'd see one on list threads.)

I remember seeing that movie. It was so funny. It also had the same guy who appeared in Mr. Bean.

I also watched funny movies like Anchorman and Dodgeball when they came out last year. I'm not very good at explaining the plot though.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I like it because it is awesome, hilarious, and has singing dolphins. It is also based off of my favorite book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I would explain the plot, but it doesn't really have much of one...

Also like Rat Race. Good, good movie.
