ooc: Okay, I regret to announce that this battle may have to just wait to be continued until after I am done moving. I plan to move on the 30th, so I'll post to continue it then.

Maintaining the speed of the sword in its entirety, Ashra jerks his sword away from Jaques's arm before it can impact, turning it down in time to parry the thrust. He then edges slightly to his right, and leaps forwards at Jaques, thrusting at the left wing.

In a quick attempt to save his wings, there was really only one thing Jaques could do. He brought up his arm, and hit the flat of Ashra's blade, making it so that it was knocked away from his wing. Seizing the opportunity of Ashra's sword being swung to the side, Jaques attempted a stab at Ashra's stomach.

Only two more posts, then Jaques has the death spell to launchable capacity.

However, Ashra's blade is NOT forced away. As Jaques fights against the swing of the sword, Ashra seems to become stronger every moment. He then proceeds to suddenly release the pressure against Jaques, and as his blade is forced downwards, Ashra spins it up in a circle to chop at one of Jaques's wings.

ooc: Sorry, I've just been a bit busy recently, as I'm going to be moving soon. So, I haven't had the time, nor will I until after I move, to write long, descriptive posts.

ic: Jaques moved his sword from its defensive position, blocking Ashra's as it moved in an arc. Temporarily they were caught in a sword lock, and swo Jaques attempts to force Ahra's blade down, then send a strong punch at his head, if the sword was forced down.

(ooc: I give up. Forget actually being creative, I'm going to match my level of descriptiveness with yours for now on, to the best of my ability. OK?)

As Ashra reaches Jaques, he draws his runesword. He brings it up above his head, then down around in an arc across Jaques's body. Lingering effects from his nature state leave his sword still incredibly sharp, and capable of slicing through the adamantium.

Jaques began to recharge the death spell as Koneko reached him. For it to get back to the proper state, Jaques would have to only take two posts this time, as he charged it before so recently.

However, were he to charge it for a few more posts, he would make it so that he could target him no matter where he was, even in another dimension.

(ooc: Sorry, man. I don't mean to confuse you. Ashra isn't there AT ALL. He's still in that gem he summoned, which is off in another dimension entirely. He is only maintaining a slight control over the voidflare, and can't do anything complicated or anything that requires the particles to cooperate. I would assume that you located my spirit, but since you admitted that while he was in another dimension you couldn't target him, I will instead assume that you couldn't find a target with your instant kill spell, because he wasn't within the burst, no matter how far out it spreads.

And, all powerful? Not really, he can only maintain the swarm state for two posts, and it takes three and a half posts to enter it, and a half post to leave. Since Ashra spent one turn with his body as a swarm, he could have another one before using a full turn to change back. However, because you're so annoyed, I'll swap back now out of... Politeness.)

Ashra watches from his soul gem as the desired effect is produced: Jacques loses the spell, it goes out in a big wide circle of doom, and nothing happens. The green gem pops back into reality as Jaques' death spell fizzles out, and the voidflare flies back towards it. The gem is covered in purple energy as Ashra's spirit exits the crystal, the voidflare spiralling around and into the spirit, reforming the body he was wearing when the battle began, cloak, sword, and all. The emerald disappears again, ready to be summoned again if necessary.

At this point, Ashra notices that he's only ten miles up in the air, with altitude rapidly decreasing. He quickly draws a purple symbol in the air with his now-bandaged left hand, and the sigil of protection rushes under him. He lands lightly on it, and commands it to raise him back into the sky, towards his opponent...

ooc: Okay, this is getting confusing...Bassically what you're saying is that Ashra is in his storage state, in one of the voidflare, right?

So therfore shouldn't Jaques still be able to locate it through his magical abilities, like he could detect and other spirit?

Anyway, just assume I located your spirit, and try and avoid/block it, because I'm getting annoyed at you being nothing but the alll powerful voidflare.

(ooc: Ashra's spirit is in his storage dimension still. He can control his voidflare from anywhere in any dimension. His body, which consists entirely of voidflare disguised by illusions when he's not in the nature form, has been scattered into the swarm of energy particles. You mentioned before that the spell could be altered to target a body instead, and destroy its ability to host a soul. So I'm a little confused as to whether or not you can destroy the entire swarm's ability to stop Ashra's spirit from returning to it.

At this point you may be wondering why Ashra needs to return to the voidflare in the first place. Well, he can control the voidflare from a remote location, but he needs to be very close to it to give it a form. The individual particles are just energy without him nearby to give them shape and purpose.)

ooc: I just released the globe. And as I said before, it goes on until Jaques makes it stop.

So, Jaques can detect Ashra's spirit out of the voidflare, unless you are saying that is spirit is now only energy?

(ooc: That's just it, though. They aren't spirits, they're voidflare energy. At twenty miles up in the air, there probably aren't any spirits to target until you hit the forest far below you, considering that Ashra is not even physically anywhere. Also, that didn't happen to Koneko, because I didn't notice an ever-growing globe passing by me recently, unless I was asleep.)

ooc: Basically, imagine an ever growing globe, coming from Jaques. This globe detects spirits that Jaques might know, and allows him to pick that spirit out of all the billions there are. Once he picks out that spirit, he chooses to destroy it.

This is what happened to Koneko. Jaques can dettect it below, above, behind, or in front of himself.

(ooc: Please explain this spell to me. I don't understand exactly which parts of the swarm you're attacking, and from your description it sounds like you have to have line of sight to a particle to destroy it. So, I think the ones behind you don't get hurt at all. If I'm wrong, and you can indeed target and destroy every individual speck, please say so.)

ooc: Just so you know, you just had me release my attack.

ic: Jaques began to feel weakened, and nearly lost consciousness with this attack. So, as a result, Jaques was unable to hold onto the spell any longer, and so it was released. This spell would travel in an ever expanding circle, until Jaques has it stop. However, the only spirits that could obtain damage would be those Jaques has seen, not mattering what form they were in when he saw them. All those that he saw would have an image of them spring up in his mind, and he would choose which one to be destroyed.

(ooc: Sorry for the delay. Also, I most certainly CAN attack when my character consists of a huge swarm of energy particles controlled from a timeless soul. Whyever not? Skip the ret of this if you don't want to read the rant. Why would Jaques, in this form where he can't really control himself, accept Ashra surrendering? Why would Ashra surrender in the first place, as he now really wants to kill Jaques for trying to burn his forest? And why would you be so arrogant as to think that you hold my character's life under your control, and that I would surrender outside of my character to save him? If he dies, he dies. No need to break the fourth wall to make it not happen. Death is not permanent in a fantasy setting. This I assume you know, as otherwise it would be godmodding to be able to get an instant kill after one turn of charging. I'm done ranting now.)

The swarm then proceeds, under Ashra's direction, to rush at Jaques at absurdly high speeds. It also widens, so that each particle has about an inch of space separating it from its nearest neighbors. The cloud in this way expands to about twenty miles in diameter in an instant, and reaches Jaques' location in less than a tenth of a second.

This controlled voidflare has several properties that distinguish it from its more dense form. First, it cannot deal heat damage, or explode. These abilities are replaced with a large magical arsenal under the command of any individual speck of energy. Next, they completely ignore anything, living or nonliving, that blocks their path.

This particular swarm's magical attacks include a ray of pure negative energy that cannot be blocked by conventional means and pierces through any physical obstacle, draining what we call, for lack of a better term, the life force of one living target. Not the entirety of the life force, you see, but merely a small portion. Imagine one part of your body instantly aging one tenth of your life while the rest of you remains the same. Being hit by numerous rays generally just knocks the target unconscious, because the effect is temporary and lasts about a day. Only the intended target can be damaged by this attack.

And this ray attack is what is now emanating from each end every one of the billions and billions of specks of energy, surrounding Jaques from every possible angle. It's Ashra's last ditch effort to remove the threat that Jaques poses to the forest, as he knows from merely turning his attention to Jaques that the spell inside could wipe out the miles of the trees and animals that make up the Forest of Sorrows.

ooc: Just so you know, as you can't possibly attack while in this situation, it may be best for your character to resign. Jaques would go back to himself, and you can survive.

ic: Jaques choose to charge his attack one more time, so that this time it would go out in a shockwave, leaving death wherever it goes.

And as Jaques decides to attack Ashra's body, at that very moment, something very strange happens. The skin becomes translucent, and the voidflare is clearly visible, consisting of the entire inside of the soulless shell. As it becomes the target of the spell, it explodes. Not a destructive explosion, but Ashra's body is scattered into many infinitesimal pieces, the voidflare now occupying a cloud of vapor more than three miles across. Instead of there being no target, there are billions, each one capable of mantaining Ashra's soul.

As for the tree, it is merely a projection of Nira's energies. It no longer holds her bound, as the tree itself was burned to death, freeing her. The crystalline tree represents more a gauge of her current power than anything really targetable. If it is attacked, nothing can possibly affect it, as it does not exist while Nira is out of the time stream.

ooc: I must admit, that is the most creative way people have avoided this spell.

ic: It the absense of a target, which was required for the spell to be launched, Jaques was forced to keep this spell, and wait for Ashra to come out. However, the spell could be altered. If there was no soul, then Jaques could release the spell at the body, and it would not be capable of hosting a soul. And with his sister having gone, there would be no one to recreate the body.

So, Jaques launched a small portion of the spell(not all of it, only about a quarter), toward Ashra's body, and another quarter at his sister's tree, which would prevent her from coming back to the tree.

He still had half of it left to fire at whoever he choose, or to charge some more, if he wished.

(ooc: What do you mean, I wasted a post? Were you assuming I would move the crystal, still marble-sized, to block an incoming strike? No, no, no. And what do you mean, only other spirits? Forests are full of animal life, and they have souls, too!)

Ashra watches calmly as he senses Jaques reaching out for his spirit. He notices with satisfaction that his sister's soul is gone from the area; He'd known she would be able to escape. As he notices that the spell has nearly grasped him, he performs several prepared actions, all instintaneously.

He begins by reaching out with his mind for the space of the crystal he has formed. It is a soul gem, crafted from pure energy, that Ashra had hand-forged many years before. The entire process of gathering energy was in fact just a summon spell to retrieve it from its storage dimension. Ashra leaps into his soul gem, and he can feel his body as though it were far away.

He then proceeds to forcefully reverse the transformation of his body that had locked away his voidflare. It emerges, flaring up around his body as it reverts back to the Ashra that greeted Jaques so recently, and accepted this duel.

Commanding his body from inside the sealed gem, Ashra draws a single symbol with his left hand. It rushes forward upon completion, enveloping the crystal, and shifts it back to the pocket dimension, passenger included.

So the spell looks, and it cannot find Ashra's soul (unless of course it can cross planar boundaries, in which case he's kind of screwed), nor that of his sister (unless of course it can cross temporal boundaries, in which case she's kind of screwed). Ashra waits in his private demiplane for the spell to fizzle out with no targets, as long as it takes is a short enough time for him in his timeless world.

(ooc: Nira, Ashra's sister, got pulled out of this thread by Alex, controlled by Rya. Read that thread, I had no control over the time-travel stuff that led to this.)
