HyperHacker read my mind first post and second!
Run volume control, click options then properties then recording. Make sure there
is a tick by stereo mix and press ok.
Tick the box "select" by stereo mix, and go into audacity. click record, then stop
when you finish. When you then get the precise sound, use audacity's zoom in
(lengthways) and select and delete the parts you don't want.

Open the volume control, go to Recording, and select Stereo Mix for the input.

'Mixer' is usually the standard name that you would select in the Volume Control under the recording options. It should be a matter of using whatever sound recorder to do the job after that.

I'd use GoldWave, actually.

Most recorders will, just select Stereo Mix as the input. It's still not major quality, since I think it's just a physical connection between input and output, but it's a hell of a lot better than you'd get with a microphone. Also, I recommend Audacity for recording and editing sounds.

Are there any programs which let you record sounds directly from the computer, rather than using a microphone and recording the speakers? I hate the real crackly sound that comes from the speakers when I record it.
