The manga is a classic and a must read. At least until after the Frieza saga. It's pretty clear Toriama had lost creative cotrol of the series by then.

Well since you asked, I watched all 3 series. GT, I just plain hate it, DB was all right it and DBZ was pretty good. I rather buy the DVD than watch it on CN because CN edits the cool fight scenes to where there is no blood and they have about 3 commercial breaks. I like the manga too, I read it more than watching the series. There's one thing I can't stand about watching the series.

Actually, the current airing of Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network is entirely uncut...and redubbed. Though, I must agree that the three commercial breaks is rather annoying. I liked it better when there was only one commercial break.

I've had at least one dream and that was a long time ago. Although, it wasn't a DBZ dream, it was a DB one. I really enjoyed that.

Its Saiyan in English Xeo and I think Saya-jin in Japanese.

I know DBZ really isnt the greatest Anime in the world, and Im well aware that it was immensly repetative but I cant help it. I love DBZ!

Its just brings back so many great memories of me being a fascinated kid with no worries. DBZ was the base for Anime addiction, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I don't really care very much. I do watch it sometimes when I'm bored, and yeah, asking in an anime forum if people watch the show is bound to obviously bring up some affirmatives.

I like early DBZ, when Gohan is all little and cute

Not when he's SayijinMan!?

(one of the worst parts of the series ... )

Edit: Yeah, I just raped the spelling of Sayajin or however it's spelled. Oh well, I'd look it up, but that's if I cared.

Dragonball(original) always gets a bum rap because people ALWAYS think of DBZ first. That's a big problem. DB really is a great show. Far better than DBZ. (which in its earliest stages, didn't look as bad as it turned out to be)

Dragon Ball Z had, to me, some merit: It gave me inspiration and ideas when I had none. If I needed to think about, to contemplate a serious battle, I'd look at a few episodes of the decent fighting that existed in DBZ, I'd envision what I wanted in my mind, and I'd end up with something along the same vein that involved less screaming, less bulgy muscles, less ki blasting, and a hell of a lot more speed.

To its credit, the Vegeta Saga was a good one, it kept you wondering just who the hero was, and really did set the modern standard for the "I am pissed off and will destroy you now" archetype in Gohan.

That's the thing.

I think the concept behind Dragonball Z is completely original, and actually pretty cool.

From the idea to people simply having a "Powerlevel", to being able to shoot Ki Blasts (alright, so that's not too original actually), being able to fly, and transform yourself into a more powerful form; these were all cool. Just how it was played out ... not exactly cool.

I sometimes imagine what a serious series with the same style, and concept that DBZ had, would be like. Probably not all that bad.

The only thing that really hasn't been said here for me about this series is that it and Sailor Moon (somehow, yes, Sailor Moon) got me somewhat into anime.

Now if I had some more money, I probably would get some more anime.

I have to agree with Prier on the question you posed here ... kind of made me laugh.

Disclaimer: Don't hit me for butchering names.

Even though I will standby and say DBZ is one of the most utterly overated series out there, it's not nearly as bad as a lot of other animes out there.

Honestly I think the DBZ series is very good up until the end of the Freiza Saga. I'm sure you've heard a lot of people say this before, but I just really believe it. It was serious and actually had entertaining characters, like the Ginyu force. The powerlevel concept was indeed cool, and believable. It had an ultimate ending set for it, Goku became the "Legendary Super Sayijin" and so on, Freiza was defeated, the people were restored, and so on.

But no.

  • Everyone learned how to fart to the level that Goku achieved
  • Peoples powerlevels exceeded into the Billions
  • The super evil Freize came back, but wait someone from the future is here with a sword and cuts him in half instantly! ...?
  • They learned how to make their hair even longer by going into the 2nd Super Sayijin form
  • Then there was level 3 that erased their eyebrows
  • Goku always ate food and that joke died out quickly
  • People started fusing into one to create super overly powerful and goofy looking characters.
  • You had the children of the series turn out to be stronger than the experienced adults.
  • You had idiotic and retarded fake-villians like Cell who completely wanted and gave his opponents the oppurtunity to train and make their powerlevels go into the trillians. Just so he could have a fair match and have a possibilty of dying, yeah, very cunning there.
  • Then you had ultimate and sinister villians like Buu who turned people into candy, can a series get more scary than that? (this is the exact point in the series where I gave up on it, and stopped watching it).

What my point is, it probably should have ended around say, episode 70-80 or whatever, and not 300+.

I never liked any of the movies either really. My friend and I recently watched one of the Brolly movies and we were just bored out of our minds. On top of that we watched it in Japanese, and I'm not understanding how people think the subs are far superior to the dubs, the voices were horrid ... and so were they in English (*thinks back to Vegeta's voice ...*)

But past all of this, I can say that GT is by far one of the worst series I've ever seen. I've seen a good handful of episodes, and I was bored out of my mind everytime. The music was also absolutely horrible, the humor (especially on Goku's part) was horrendous, it did not need to be dragged out that long.

Dragonball wasn't bad, but it was nothing special in my opinion. I watched the first season, enjoyed it, but wasn't captivated enough to continue on with it.

So there you have it, a simple version of my rant / synapsis on the entire DB universe. Not bad, but overated and way too dragged out.

Also, on the DBZ note, I just learned the other day that they're making another Brolly movie. What is this, the third or fourth one now? How many time are they going to milk this/bring him back.

I think it's their third movie that they're making and suppose to be the last.

And we understand this. Try not to take this too seriously, actually, I should say that to other people around here.

Anyway, my point is, even though a post might have been made that was a bit off the topic at hand, doesn't mean you have to make one. Try to keep your posts on topic and meaningful.

So anyway, may I ask, why you're intrested in knowing? Tt is a popular anime, maybe one of the most (like Sailor Moon and the likes) so it's common to think that everyone watches it or at least some point, or maybe they just hate it in general.

Kid Gohan/Teen Gohan's voice is annoying. I usually have the volume on mute when I hear his voice. Plus your that same voice in DB as kid Goku and GT as kid Goku again.

Yes. I used to watch the orginal Dragonball when that first came out, and then I used to watch DBZ, but now, if I want to watch it, I'll rent it than watch it on TV.
