None of my friends have ever had specific problems with specific drives... Guess it's a crapshoot really. Go with what works with you or what fits your price range.
Seagate are supposed to be all right but I don't think any of them fit my price range a year ago... therefore I don't care about them.  |

You know, I would've been right with you on that too, because I used to use WD...but it never failed; every time I used a drive by them, it would always bite the dust a lot faster than a MAXTOR.
The hard drives that I've put in friends comps that have been MAXTORs have worked much better in terms of longevity than WDs did for me, some of the MAXTORs are still being used today that I put in more than a half-decade ago.
As for Seagate: heard a lot, never used them. And you'd be right about super customization if I'm using an old Shitpaq. I just don't have the cash. :\ |

@trapster -- this is the first time I've ever heard of chipset compatibility problems with HDs  i'd like to see where you got this information. Probably, what I think happened was someone had that hard drive and did some type of customization that caused the HD to be fried... Hiryuu doesn't seem like the type to do super customization on his own computer...
My HD preferences are Western Digital, Seagate, and then Maxtor. However, if quantum was still around, then Quantum would be ahead of Maxtor... |

And to post something kinda on topic, I actually didn't know hard drives were this cheap nowadays. I remember back in the days when a 1gb disc cost that much. Yep, those were the days.

Works for me; that's about what I spent on this 60 gig when I bought it a few years ago. But having 260 gigs on a 1.0GHz is almost going to feel like a waste for that speed...oh well. |

if i were you i would get the seagate barracuda 400GB i've yet to see better value for money on hard drives tan them. i won't give a price cause i'm in england and so don't exactly know the dollar |

Hard drives are CHEAP now, Hiryuu. I think you could easily get a Maxtor 160GB drive for under $150 American, but odds are you'll need to hit up a non-chain store for that price. |

Outpost has a 200GB Maxtor drive for $69. I don't know how reliable that place is, I have never bought anything from there myself, but it's worth checking out.
