Ok!
I always include a very basic readme. Though, for such a demo you might want to include some extra information. At least I would include what ROM to use and a short instruction how the patching works.

Just did a web search for that case; interesting that the last word on ROM alteration came in 1986. Shouldn't someone challenge this again in these days of Cliff's Notes, "totally unauthorized" study guides, and the like? I find them to be similar "enhancements" for people who already own the copyrighted material in question. |

I'm going to make a readme for my Crimson Echoes demo, which will be released on August 22nd (barring nothing; believe me, 95% is done). I know for a lot of other games and mods, there is usually a readme template for releasing stuff (such as the one used for Star Wars FPS levels at massassi.net ). Is there such a document or at least loose format to follow regarding rom hacks, or something I can look at to make a structured, well-organized document for the CE demo? In the very least, I can look at another person's. I don't think a legal disclaimer would do much good, since M. Kramer Manufacturing Company, Inc. v. Andrews established that nearly all fanmade patches are illegal. |
