Another thing to note is that MIDIs are 16 channel polyphonic, the SPC700 is 8 chanel monophonic. Never going to happen. A MIDI to SPC converter? Unless the MIDI is exactly 8 channels, monophonic (like this shit as hell homebrew MIDI engine I used with an ancient SNES dev kit..), it'll never work right. And most people who would use it I know for afact are not intelligent enough to set up the MIDI that way. I'm actualy quite glad something like that will never come into fruitation--it just means less idiots taking crappy MIDIs from VG music and sticking them in a hack.
Thanks for the explanation... I'm a little disapointed, but I should have known, cos Sappy's earlier version did play the music trough midi.
The difference between mono- and polyphonic is that with polyphonic, you can play more than one tone trough one channel at a time (like the Animal Crossing Title tune can be played with just two polyphonic channels).
What are the limitations of the N-SPC format musicwise? (Not technical, but what you actually hear) besides the SPC700s own limitations? |

I just had a though today in the train..
how much different is the Mappy-Engine for GBA to the N-SPC-Engine for SNES?
As Bouche wrote a great Midi-Mapper for the Mappy-Engine.. wouldn't there be some interesting things be possible? |

blackhole89, if you do put in a midi import feature, make it import the midis by making them use either the default synthesiser (I hope I spelled that right) or microsoft GS wavetable synth from windows XP for the base sounds used for the sound in the music (I hope you know what I mean) |

Is anyone still working on that MP3 streaming thing? If we could have sound effects, that'd be damn cool.
I still think developing a fictive additional hardware, wich holds those mp3s or whatever (may even the SuperCD) and let ZSNES and SNES9x emulate that fictive additional hardware, and give trough the SPC or something else commands to this hardware, and the emulator software then plays acording music and sound files.
Or else: Just add a little asm that tells the modifided emu to load a specific music file from harddisk. |

Yeah go enjoy your vacation. You really deserve it. SST sounds like it's gonna be a great program; even if you can't rip spc's from other games and we all look forward to it. |

Don't worry about promises. SS will be a great program, just take your time. BTW, hope you have a great end to your vacation. |

Who the hell keeps saying you "could insert SPCs from other games"? First off, the SPC programs of non-N-SPC games (e.g. Secret of Mana) are vastly incompatible with SMAS' and always will be. Secondly, the concept of "SPC=song" is plain wrong. Most "simpler" (e.g. SMW) games' SPC dumps contain the soundtrack data for a whole part, if not all, of the game. The main purpose of Solar Soundtrack, anyways, is to allow you to compose your own music.
I will be back from vacation on the 23rd, and will try to have SST released shortly after. Not much I can promise though. |

IIRC, it also supports other games besides SMW. Link to the Past, I remeber clearly. |

Well, thats still A LOT better than typical SMW music - besides, the best VG music ever was from SNES games, like Chrono Trigger, the Final Fantasy series, and other Mario games. So it shouldn't be too hard to make a great sounding game |

Wrong. From what I can gather, you can only insert .spc music files due to the SNES music memory limit (64KB, I think), meaning you can only put in soundtrack from other SNES games. (Or NES and Gameboy, if you have the correct conversion utility) |
