Yep, StyleXP is just an expensive GUI version of the utxtheme patch and doesn't even do it right. When you reboot, you have to re-apply your theme, which means you also need to re-do any changes you made to titlebar sizes and such and reset your wallpaper. It's a major pain.
Of course, if you want to make your own themes, it's a hell of a lot easier to just use Stylebuilder which requires StyleXP.  |

Which also makes you pay for doing the same exact thing as the uxtheme.dll patchers do for free. Well, the only difference is that it patches the uxtheme.dll that's already been loaded into memory, while the other patchers do it on-disk. |

I should have clarified, no true macOS theme for StyleXP 
I know by know somebody has made one...but they all still have the min/max/close on the right  |

Yeah, there are a lot actually. There are lots of places to get themes and stuff, I like that place, but its just a suggestion. |

The only thing i didnt' like about StyleXP is that sometimes it does not apply the theme at all after starting up...but other than that, yeah StyleXP is a lot better in terms of how much resources it eats up
One thing I wonder is if StyleXP able to move the titlebar buttons? like move the minimize/maximize/close buttons to the left?
I don't think i've seen a MacOS theme for StyleXP... |

Well, if it does, that's news to me As far as I know, SkinStudio can convert .msstyles, but some things don't get changed during the conversion, such as the pictures for the buttons in the Shut Down and Log Off boxes. Shellstyles (I think that's what they're called) don't get converted either. I have done that with a couple themes I found that were only in .msstyle format, but most of them look less than nice

I remember looking into that back before I even found Stardock's site I prefer what I'm using right now though, mostly because I'm used to / comfortable with it, and also because a majority of the themes I like are only in .wba format. I should take a look at getting that patch though, as I've run across a few visual styles so far that haven't been ported for whatever reason.
Like you said though, everyone has a different way of doing things, so it's up to them to decide how to go about changing the GUI or whatever else

By the way, you don't need WindowBlinds to skin Windows XP. All you need is a Uxtheme.dll patch and some visual styles. Some people prefer it anyway, so whatever floats your boat. |

I must say, that was fast. I'll try that when I get home tonight, along with some of the other programs there that look interesting. Hopefully it works, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I've posted more of my threads in this section than anywhere else Well, it goes to show what gives me problems the most, I guess.
Anyways, as the thread title says, I'm wondering if there's a way to change the text color for compressed files. I'm using Windows XP Home SP2, in case that makes a difference. The reasoning behind the question is that most of the WindowBlinds themes I use set a dark folder background color that makes it difficult to read the filenames of compressed files. I can highlight / select the ones I'm trying to read, but it'd be much nicer if I didn't have to worry about doing that
I also realize I could just not use WindowBlinds altogether, but Luna and it's two other colors get boring after a while.
I've looked on google, and the only things I've found are pages with instructions on how to enable different file text colors, depending on whether certain attributes are applied to them, instead of how to change said colors.
I have a feeling I've seen an option somewhere to change this color, but if I did, I can't find it again  For all I know, there could be certain registry keys that control that, and if that's the case, I don't want to pick through the whole thing to find them
So, hopefully someone knows the answer to this question, and thanks for any help you can give me |
