But of course I'm glad to see that SMB3 won. I love SSBM to death and all, but my heart will always belong to SMB3. For it being the only game I owned on the NES for a whole year, it provided me with enough things to do to last me a life time (and still does!)
Really, all I can say here is quoted for truth.
SSBM was really fun and stuff, I played it for a long time, but first of all, SMB3 was just classic fun. I can pick it up and jump on a bunch of guys, and I'll enjoy it.
But mostly, SSBM was too much like SSB, only they added a bunch more characters and several more moves, which made it more fun.
DDR failing close to the beginning was just sad though |

I enjoyed that World pretty much. I like those level designs and I didn

Honestly that was my least favorite world, but SMB3 was still hands down an incredible game.
Argh, the whole thing is just not particularly good though, it's just that Pipe Land is the worst. Yeah, I used to really like SMB3, but then I went back and played it again recently and god dammit that game sucks. The game is not without its moments, obviously, but it is quite flawed, suffering a great deal from uneven level design and short levels. Combined with the fact that the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of that game is the autoscroll water level in world 7 just makes me hate it with every ounce of my soul. |

SSBM was great, but it hasn't been something I've gone back to and played over within the last couple of months or whatever, in which I could easily sit down to play SMB3 anytime.

Not really. SMB 3 is BETTER because it is MORE innovative. It holds memories for me, fond memories. Playing it today I can still sit down and think "wow, those levels are short and many of them are easy. But wow, those are all gems!"
I can sit down and play SSBM and go "wow, this is retarded" and proceed to kick the fuck out of it for hours. Entertaining myself to no end, because I'm duking up an inanimate object that is not fun when added to another inanimate object that lets it work. |

What's your point? This was not a most innovative game competition, this was a BEST game competition, and frankly Melee is a much better game than SMB3, even if it isn't as innovative. |

Let's compare this.
SMB3, completely innovative for its time.
SSBM, not innovative. It is just Power Stone or Super Smash Bros. Nothing more. There is nothing special about that game. |

SMB3 wasn't really all that great, I thought Super Mario World was like 50x better |

I wholeheartedly disagree with this Super Mario 3 had world 7, which was pretty much made entirely out of a combination of evil and bad level design. Smash Bros Melee had pure awesome. Crappy level design... Pure awesome... Crappy level design... Pure awesome... YEAH BECAUSE CRAPPY LEVEL DESIGN IS OBVIOUSLY BETTER am I right? |

w00tlasagna I guess.
I would have rather seen Super Metroid or Link to the Past make it to number one, but I won't complain with SMB3.
Here's to Super Mario Bros 3!
