Why doesn't someone make a translation based on that, then? You don't even need to speak Japanese.

May I recommend the text translation giude on GameFAQs? It was written before ROMs became popular, and was designed for people who have the Japanese cart to print out and read as they play the Japanese version. The dialogue follows the Japanese original almost exactly (no enhancements), so it's a little dry, but quite accurate.

So, basically, there's really not a lot of difference. The only thing changed is the item names and that's if you have preference for one or the other.

Perusing the Readme of the translation, i found this

__________________________________________________________________________________________
|Section 1: What is it? \
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an enhancement of RPGe's translation of Final Fantasy V for the SNES. When RPGe
translated it they altered item names to be more like Final Fantasy III US, I figure it
was to help people more familiar with Final Fantasy III US easier, but it doesn't make for
an acurate translation. This fixes item, equipment, magic, monster, job, and ability names
plus it also removes the over use of il, ll, li, it, tt, ti, ect. characters (They are
still used where needed). Note no dialouge was changed, except for a few miss-matched
names dialouge was fine (I may release a patch that fixes the few places where the wrong
person's name is used).

|Section 2: Why? \
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I first got into emulation I played this translation, Final Fantasy V had already
been released here in the states in Final Fantasy Anthology, and I thought the names of
stuff sucked (Not the actual translation though) Later I got an enhacement patch, but it
sucked too. I have fixed that, along with the font and item icons RPGe changed for no good
reason.

RPGe's is pretty much the original and one of the first "name" translations that was released, so... yeah. I'd trust that one the most to be honest.

RPGe did well. I thought it was better than the PSX translation in some areas.

I don't know shit about the so-called 'Enhancement' but I know RPGe's is decent.

I was browsing zophar.net to find a Final Fantasy V translation and I notice there are two.

Final Fantasy V - by RPGe

Final Fantasy V: Enhancement - by Dark Knight Kain

Can anyone who has played both of them state which one is better, or, if appropriate, state what is better or worse about each?
