While I think it's a rather trivial and outright closeminded to want to edit someone else's art work to suit your sensibilities, he's within his rights to do so. Making fun is pretty counterproductive at this point.

As a an unorthodox Christian, this thread made my night. Editing a game to make it alright of your religion is feigning ignorance - if it offends you, don't play it. Or play it and try not to be offended. If you edit it, it's like playing a bootleg. It's the same thing...but hell, it doesn't feel like it.

  • Actually, in Japanese this is "unable to battle", apparently to silence the "OMG y didn't th3y use a ph3nix d0wn!!!!11" types when a main character dies.

WTF is left that could be considered "naughty?"

    The decimation of FF6 includes:
    • Changing Holy to Pearl
    • Removed all of Kefka's swearing, he's way more psychotic than the US version lets on
    • Dead -> Wounded, bleeding means you are "wounded." I suppose when Nappa blew up that chopper there WERE parachutes left, fucktards.
    • Death -> Doom. omg we're doomed, DOOMED! I knew it was "Death" when I was 12 years old, and I didn't cry about it.
    • Nintendo renaming it from FF6 to FF3. Cause like, you know, the US only has 3 games of the series. The rest don't count!
Let's not forget about the 0xFFFF bugs in the game. So please explain what the hell "naughty" is.

Specifically Kefka's "Oh shit!" quote was changed to "Son of a submariner" (don't know about the others,) some of the lady bosses have extra clothes, Cyan's Porno Mag item was removed, and Duane and Katarin having the implied teenage out-of-wedlock element was removed.

It could act as a "gateway game", so that someone might compromise and actually see that RPGs are fun. Besides, by censoring all of the naughty bits out of the game, he has to at least know what they are, right? So he's not going to miss out on the real plot.

besides, i just checked and it turns out he's only 11. He'll come to his senses when he gets older (I hope).

"DEMON: The girl in the picture is mine! You can't have her!" <-- is that the line? Well, I probably shouldn't, but this is me having way too much time on my hands. This was written about 4 years ago, and I didn't check for line breaks. And since I have no idea where this text actually is in the rom, it's about all I can offer.

Your logic and reasoning is complete FUBAR, but to each his own.

Oh, I just naturally assumed you were replying to my comment. Oh well, I felt like making to little post about Woolsey anyway.

No, questions end with a question mark, it was a statement, or better yet a comment.

Ted Woolsey translated FF6, he was forced to cut the script down to fit back in the original alloted space, and then forced to censor many things out of that script because of Nintendo's standards at the time. He also had to deal with censoring graphics that no one with the exception of people like you would find offensive, and then QA people who demanded changes for no good reason (They hated the name "Tina" for no apparent reason). In the end none of it is Woolsey's fault, he just takes the blame because it's his name under "TRANSLATOR" in the credits.

I'd hate to see what you'd think of Sky Render's retranslation...

I was actually asking if he thought my question was pathetic...

How can you play the game at all? What about the whole "Thou shalt not kill" thing?

Man, if you're that offended by FF3, never play Shin Megami Tensei. Along with summoning demons, travelling throught the nine regions of Dante's Hell, being able to team up with Lucifer if you so decide, and fighting YHVH as the final boss in SMT2, there's also this little guy who's appeared in quite a few SMT titles.

Lying IS a Ten Commandment, you are right. But I was simply stating that I only wanted to edit out that one line. And actually, I just editted the plot a little bit. All I did (really) was replace a thing like the Espers going into the "Spirit World" into something like "a peaceful place". So I haven't really changed much of the plot. But anyways, how does one go about editting in-battle text? This is the LAST line I want to change.

    ONE LINE?!

Dude, you're trying to edit damn near every fucking line in the game (as well as some of the graphics) that has the slim possibility of maybe being offensive to one or two random religious zealots on the entire Northern Hemisphere!

Oh, and since I mentioned the graphics, you better edit Terra's esper form while you're at it. =/

Edit: Alright, alright, I was perhaps a bti harsh. The fact remains, saying you were only trying to edit one line is a blatant fucking lie. And isn't that also violating one of the Commandments?

Look...I won't explode this time. I feel comfortable with editting all that stuff out, and I feel it is still FF6. Just because I want to edit one line dosen't mean it isn't going to be FF6. So please tell me.
