Yeah, I'd be sure not to use that. Though I'd be interested to see what Microsoft Fro does...

The Windows Vista logo looks too much like the Windows XP logo. I mean, c'mon! Can't they get a little more creative? Or maybe they should appeal to a more Urban crowd like McDonalds did? The name is also hideous.

So, I bring you...

Even though I'm white, I still think that this would be a great version of Windows.

I'm just surprised they didn't give it some 2-letter or numeric name. Where's Windows FZ?

Seriously, though, I can't see myself 'upgrading' to this anytime soon. I can tell just from the screenshots it's a huge resource hog. What's up with that sidebar, it takes up like a quarter of the screen for an analog clock and image slideshow. Totally useless. The interface is also ugly. But really, none of that concerns me much... It's DRM that I'm worried about. Anyone remember Palladium? I can manage my own rights just fine, thank you very much.

Personally I'd rather be using Linux anyway, but I haven't got around to getting it running yet. I suppose I should, but I can't until I get this damn board replaced which is taking way long. But I digress... I'll probably stick with XP, Windows-wise, until people develop hacks/mods to get rid of a lot of the bloat and that DRM crap. MS needs to cut the fancy crap and pretty graphics and make a really stable, functional, powerful OS. Windows is so limited unless you hack it to bits...

They're not really "removing" stuff... basically, whatever's finished and stable by release gets shipped. Then the features which they just didn't have time to finish would likely come in the form of service packs.

they've already taken a few things now...now they are taking more? i guess they rather come out with something buggy than waiting to get something decent... hmm--i think they can get away with this "disappointing news" because of their leverage...

I still need to hear more about it before deciding whether an upgrade next year is worthwhile or not.

Funny to see how Microsoft's already warning consumers that some features might not be ready in time for release. :\

Yeah, I heard about this elsewhere. Thing is, I'm just not interested in Longhorn/Vista at all. The DRM stuff in particular has me slightly concerned, needing DRM compliant output and such

I don't think I like the name...

I think they are trying to make OS names more hip instead of throwing around version numbers...

well, i'm not going to get vista until 2nd edition

WinFS, DWM, 3D icons, etc. Just about everything from previous alpha builds. Funny thing too, most of it worked just fine.

Seriously, Windows 2006 would sound better to me. Or perhaps Windows '06... which would match Windows NT 6, which is its internal version number

What sort of things have they removed from it? I haven't been keeping up with it's development, as that's not very possible right now, so I don't know what sort of stuff they had planned for it

I really can't see it coming down to just a new style, since it's pretty pointless to design an OS just for that, but in the same way, it really won't be good if they're removing the stuff that would actually be useful Either way, it's going to be interesting to see what sorts of things people have to say about when it actually gets released. 2006 isn't too far away, but I can't help wonder whether it'll be worth the wait or not

Now, if Windows Longhorn wasn't crap comparing to... other OS's I tried. *cough*Mac OS X*cough*, then I would find it exciting.

Just saw this announcement over on Wincustomize's front page To be honest, I don't think "WIndows Vista" sounds that great, but then again, if they called it "Windows 2006", it'd seem like they couldn't even think of a good name to give it

It really isn't the best name, but I'm looking forward more to what it's going to be like to use, instead of wanting them to have picked a better name

Yes, it's true, the official name for Windows: Codename "Longhorn" is Windows Vista!
I have a question for any MS Employees that may happen to view this thread:

WHY NOT WINDOWS 2006!?
