Listen to that man! Castlevania is easy and fun to hack, and if you have the time/patience for it so is FF1. |

Try Castlevania, it's very easy to work with as long as you don't mind limitations (Have to follow to original level layout, it's not a big deal). Just go to Dan's Space and pick up Stake. |

Do you like sports games? Those are comparatively easy to find data for. I love hacking them.
And Firemaker, any progress with FZMV? |

In a few months, there's going to be a F-zero X Level editor. I guess you could wait for that . |

Oh sure I would love to join you stupid SM64 FZEROX and SMRPG hackers but I dont know anything you guys talk about! Maybe you should put aside time to inform everyone on how and what your doing so we all can join in? What am I to do?
Well you could read the threads and study a bit, rather than just expecting to somehow know these things. |

Well I understand Hex Editors enough to use them and now, thanks to Lenophis helping me on IRC, the NES 0x10 header and to take it into account, and how to read the numbers on the left side (The addresses). I'll take a look at that UnKirby thing, and also, yea I know theirs one Kirby game for NES and yah, I wish I knew that the levels were compressed before I was doing a bunch of corrupting last night.
Opened UnKirby and read the readme and BAM what are the chances I picked on of the hardest compressed games to hack |

If you want to anything with Kirby's Adventure on the NES, Parasyte's Unkirby is the only tools available for that game. However, I get the impression that you aren't too comfortable with a hex editor, so I do recommend picking a game with an editor that very few people hack. Looking at the list of NES level editors on Zophar's, there are tons of games that have tools available for them that very few people hack. 1942, Blaster Master, Battle City, Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle, there are quite a few on there that I've seen very little hacks for. |

Uh, there's only one NES Kirby game, and the levels are compressed. You probably won't get too far.
If you really have nothing to do, why not try to learn 6502 ASM, and how to use a tracer? |

I use a thirdparty hex/dec. Its for some project im working on but it isnt really for Hexing its for something else. Alright then. I will go get a corrupter, which I would love if you linked one you use, and then try using it on a Kirby NES game. |

Originally posted by Sonicandtails Yea. Corrupt stuff. But dont you need to know advanced Hex and such stuff like that to know what your doing?
Short answer: no Long answer: The only thing you need to know is that hex is a 16 based number. Also, if you need to, you can open up a calculator, and convert between a hex value and a decimal value. 1E -> 30 for example. Not difficult at all. Unless there's something else that you aren't mentioning or aren't asking... |

If I were instructed on how to use this stuff and look through a rom and find out data I would LOVE to find data. I just dont get it. I got plenty of time to learn it, but I dont know where to start!
Do what I did. Find a corrupter, open the rom, and corrupt stuff. I had no idea where much of anything was in FF2, I managed to find the monster data by random corruption. I even stumbled on the armor data until awj clarified what and where the data is.
The point is, even with dumb luck, you'll find something. |

Originally posted by Sonicandtails See, I dont want to do a hack on an RPG, since they are my least like series. Which kills me because their are sooo many RPG editors...
So in your original post when you stated nothing for standards or anything so much as what to suggest, you now complain about what I give? No wonder you are bored... Next time I'll keep my dumb mouth shut for not knowing your "standards."
Heres some games I would LOVE to make new levels for. Solomons Key (Which DCah took over but he obviously lied about finishing it) Any Kirby Game (Not Puzzle or Block) Donkey Kong 1,2, or 3 (But that has GOT to be hard to hack)
Noone likes these games obviously
Get off your ass and hack it yourself then. Who needs editors? You want to get rid of the boreddom. OPEN A HEX EDITOR. |

I don't dislike RPGs, but I get the impression that they're less hackable than, say, platformers, because of the tight storyline. |

*cough* Oh wait, FF2, I forgets! I've yet to actually see or hear anything about any type of project. But if you feel like it, you can check out the only real FF2 hack in existance. <shameless plug> No, it will never be plugged enough until I start seeing someone besides me doing something with it. I would plug Jade, but I fear that the beta/WIP/whatever I'm still working on far outweighs the last official release.
I post because I care, and I would like to see some work on this much hated game...
