I believe it's more of a hardware issue than a driver issue. I had the same problem with my Sound Blaster PCI512, though it would lock up if I so much as opened a program that used DirectSound (it didn't even have to play anything). Apparently, if you have a VIA chipset, you're almost guaranteed to have this problem.
I recently upgraded to an Audigy 2, and while a few programs (such as Cave Story) still don't run properly unless I turn down the acceleration, I rarely experience lockups anymore. Whether they fixed the hardware or merely "patched it" via the driver, I'm not certain, though I do know it's far more stable under Windows 2000 than 98SE. |

I have the same soundcard and used to have the same problem. I solved it by turning down the hardware acceleration to the lowest it could go. Creative isn't very good at making device drivers, thats all I have to say. |

It could be a defective card. Are you using XP? It should have some built-in drivers you could use. |

Hrm... ever since i installed my sound blaster live 24bit, whenever music is playing of after a while a sound play and eventually it will freeze. Whenever i disable the device in device manager i dont get problems(like when watching a movie just w/o sound) it wont freeze. So i know for sure it has to do with the sound card/driver. Anybody know if any driver updates are available anywhere or why this could be happening? |
