It looks great.
It really does bring back some of that old Mario feeling. I've also thought of doing something like that, but I've been too busy with my other hack to get around to it, so I'm glad that you've decided to do it.

BTW: You should also change the Goomba's gfx.

..Awesome! I'd love to have those ExGFX, if I was still hacking... ~_~ The ? blocks aren't out of place. They look almost exactly like the SMAS SMB3 ones. Even the level itself looks neat! The BG really needs to be changed, though... Try the short hill BG for now, and create a new one later.

Chickenlump: Thanks, that's much better.

Lord Trasher: Could you reupload the screenshot? We won't know if it looks better or worse until you do, we can only assume.

I've darkened the platforms.

Darkened it up a bit.

The bright green platforms might look more appealing if they had a darker outline to them, to give them some contrast. I do like them, and they have a neat texture to them, but I think their outline is a bit off, looking at the ground with it's black outline makes the platform look somewhat out of place.... (could be just me though )

It looks good at first but when it loads the bright background you can't see his text over...

I see nothing wrong with his layout. And as for the game, other than the bright green platforms and BG, it looks perfect.

Chickenlump, don't use that post background, it's evil.

Looks to be really fun. The only thing I can think of that needs work in that shot is the background. SMW had some of the worst backgrounds... Even just a gradient sky would have helped it.... I like the new mario sprite as well, looks like he's been eating quite well since his last outing.

For getting the classic feel, it definitely works. The only thing I would change is make the green in the platforms a bit darker...

Well aside from that, there's nothing really to say except that the rendered (Or at least awkwardly shaded) question mark blocks look out of place.

I haven't actually touched the Mario pallete, it's a new sprite.

And I haven't really touched the enemy art yet. That's my next objective.

Nice job. The only thing I have to say is that the light green on those platforms clashes with somewhat darker color scheme used in everything else. Also, the koopa head seems a touch too light for the environment, especially since you went to the trouble of darkening the Mario palette, but I can overlook that since it'd be a huge pain to make a custom palette in every level just to change that.

OK, I'm working on an SMW hack, that's basically meant to feel like the old 2D games with new levels (Except knowing me, I'll probably remake a lost level from SMB3 or something)

So, am I doing things right? Are certain things clashing? What in paticular should I change? Any suggestions?
