My ipod is now working correctly. I think I found out what was wrong. Thanks for all your help anyway.

did you follow the instructions that came with your iPod? when you connect your iPod to your computer, it should automatically be detected by iTunes and appear below "Library" on the left side navigation bar of iTunes

As for manual mode, it allows you to manual manage your playlists. The default setting of iTunes is to synchronize the iPod with what is in your music library. So, if you delete a song out of your library, then that same song will disappear from the iPod (and possibly vice versa). In addition, are you properly disconnecting your iPod from the computer?

You can try using EphPod as FreeDOS suggested. However, if your iPod starts behaving weirdly, then I'm not sure if Apple's Warranty will hold. But he seems more happy with it, so it is worth a try.

I highly unrecommend using iTunes... it breaks things too often. Yes, it breaks the iPod. I've seen it many times. Use EphPod on Windows... seems much safer.

it could also be the case that you have manual mode set up on your iPod. This is the mode I use for my iPod because I already have copies of my music on CD (no point on having 3 copies...). Anyways, you load your video game music into the iTunes library. Then select all your songs and drag them to your iPod link that should be a few lines below your library on the left side.

also, for windows, you can plug in your iPod at anytime--you don't need to run iTunes first.

Just how do you "ask" an ipod to dismount?

Well, I don't have iTunes on this machine, but yes, iTunes is the recommended way of doing it. I'll assume you're using Windows?

On my Mac, synching the iPod is something along these lines:

Plug cable into end of iPod
Plug firewire cable into port on side of iBook
iTunes automatically opens
iTunes determines which songs are new and which songs aren't. Transfers new songs over. During this time, the iPod asks that it is not disconnected.
When complete, iTunes notifies me that the update is complete
I ask the iPod to dismount; then I unplug it and chuck it in my handbag.

On the PC, I'm guessing you prolly wanna open iTunes first before plugging in the iPod.

It should pretty well do everything for you.

How are you importing?

Are you using iTunes to import?

Do the files show in iTunes?

Try to make sure they are in MP3 format.

Try to make sure that the ID3 tags are up to date -- it tends to help make them easy to find on the iPod.

I've usedt both MP3 and WAV files. None of them show up on the song list.

Just out of curiosity, what format? I think the iPod can only handle MP3 or AAC (M4A/M4P).

I just bought an ipod to store all my video game tunes. When I try to input the tunes, it does not show up on the ipod music list. How do I solve this problem?
