"unless the person making the hack was respected"

or the person making the GFX.

"Not what I would call support."

What he said may have been a little harsh, but he's sort of got a point.

Not everyone's going to like a hack, and that goes for every hack out there. You can't expect everyone to like it. Just take the criticism, and build off of it. That way, you can be ultimate!

Actually, I see the judging around here as gotten a lot easier since last I frequented here. Everyone hated everything then, unless the person making the hack was respected.

What's wrong with making your own overworld? Just practice with it for a week or so, and you should be able to make a legitamate one.

Also - what's the matter with good 'ol .ips?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image48.bmp

Looks ok. Doesn't show much of the level, though.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image47.bmp

The pipe to the left side seems to be melded to the other. Might want to fix that. Otherwise, this one's okay.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image46.bmp

I actually like this idea. It's clever - if you fall, you have to dig your way out of the traps for the rest of that portion of the level. Only, I don't like the plants below the bottom layer of blocks - it'd be too easy to grab the wrong brick, and fall. Get rid of them, and it'll be cool.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image44.bmp

This looks a bit...uninspired. In my opinion, I'd rather see a level made out of land than a level made out of pipes. It looks better, you know?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image43.bmp

What are the blue koopas doing in the blocks? This looks a bit tedious - just dig your way to the pipe. You should add more inventive traps and stuff.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image41.bmp

Wow, that's crowded. Be careful, more enemies doesn't always mean more fun.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/image39.bmp

All right, I see that' you'll have to probably wait for the goombas to come down, so you can jump on them and get the height to climb the wall. This looks okay...

This game seems a little boring to me. I still haven't seen anything that looks fun. Really, do you play this game and have fun? You're actually doing pretty well, still way better than many...just try to be a little less predictable in your level design, and you'll be on your way.

And yes, consider that SMB3 graphics are getting old.

Well, they are BMPs, I checked. They look cool, the gold and blue pipes look nice together, but in #9 Mario seems to be coming out of a pipe in the wrong spot.

I'm not sick of them, but I do think you have a point. :/ The bmps load up very fast for me... So...I really find no problem with that part. As for the screens, they look neat, but, I honestly cannot find anything interesting with those... Nice work with everything though.

Those screenies look nice, but the color is . . . well, different, pretty sure thats because they are BMPs

Gah. Do you even understand what BMPs are? If you're using a 32-bit bitmap with a 32-bit computer then bitmaps should have no color loss whatsoever.

But, then again, these bitmaps... don't seem normal. I have dial-up. Regular dial-up. Things are extremely slow for me. Yet these bitmaps didn't cause any sort of slowdown. They seemed even faster than .gifs or .pngs. I don't know why that would be.

I guess I don't - but they have colour loss on mine. They didn't load slow though

Plain ole end of level after a pipe. Not much to say for this one.

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, use any type of brick, AT ALL, for an extended amount of level ground. BRICKS ARE NOT FLOORTILES. Not even cement/wooden bricks.

Okay, this one looks good, but is Mario coming out of the double-ended pipe, or is he doing a spin with the cape?

"BRICKS ARE NOT FLOORTILES!" sayeth Icy Katsune. Also the wall on the right needs an edge. (as in, ya forgot the green edgy bit, bloke.)

Ooh, that's gointa hurt in the morning... Very nice, but try and varitize the types of Koopas you use, like removing some green and adding some yellow.

A bit bland, but still okay. Mario had better move!

And to clarify, it is okay to use small clusters of things like Yellow (!) blocks for covering holes like Nintendo did in the original SMW in Yo'ster's Island 2. But NOT a building's worth of blue bricks for a floor!!!

Thanks for your time. =)

Oh, and before I forget, PNGs over BMPs... most of the time. ZSNES can make PNGs natively.

Anyway still looks pretty good, dont use .bmps they are too big and take forever to load use .PNG.

I've converted the images to links; please refrain from posting BMP images as they're way too big for some people with crappy Interweb connections. PNG is best for screenshots in most cases.

Anyway:
1 - Not bad, odd thing to take a pic of though.
2 - Looks cool.
3 - Decent, but the tiles don't connect at the bottom left.
4 - Nice pipes and ? blocks.
5 - Camera could stand to be higher.

I am not looking at them.

Don't use BMPs.

I do not want to spend 1 minute for these things to load when you could take some time and convert them to PNGs saving me (and everyone else) bandwidth and time.

Arrgh.

A hell of a lot better than glitchy graphics, though, right? I'd give this a download but I'm not going to paste all the different files together.
