That's what the game does when it encounters an error reading the course data. Try a different course. If that doesn't work, then you may have a bit of a different ROM (though I don't see that being possible).

I can't get it to work. European V64.
If I patch any level with anything, then load the ROM, select GP, select any difficulty, nothing happens. The music plays on, but the Cup-Menu doesn't come up. Help...?

On standard, it's even crazier. Silence 3 is a given, since they don't know how to stay on the track(Dirt must slow you down). But on levels like port town 3(my favorite), they are absolute gods, however they die by crashing into walls, and stuff. They move insanely fast, though(!!!)

Odd. I thought the AI was designed to follow any track?

This is excellent!

The AI sucks, though, even on master: They all fall off most courses. A 400-point lead was really cool.

BGNG, while we're waiting, you should realease some of your levels. I saw them at MFO, they look great!

Yeah, the program stores the data for the courses inside itself and rewrites the ROM to insert them.

I released this patch so that the Expansion Kit courses can finally be available to the world.

It patches new tracks in. Like an editor, but only with the Import and Export functions.

Look nice. Does it unlock tracks hidden in the ROM, or patch in new ones? I was once lucky enough to have been given a track in the X cup where every computer driver fell off due to a huge cliff-like section. I figured out on my last continue that it could be survived by driving very slowly. Finishing 1/1 is something I'll probably never see again. This was on a standard NTSC (U) cart. FYI, my forums have been reopened. Check the signature for a link.

Questions about the editor should go over here.

This thread is designated to this particular patch.

This patch, by the way, has been giving a few people problems. Something in the COM interface for Microsoft Windows is causing crashes. It's not a problem with my coding, but I would like to be able to work around it anyway... So if the program doesn't work for you (whoever you are), be patient.

I've released a change of the program that disables the 3D preview. This should ensure the program works on all systems:

Evil5_No3D.zip

Also, it's POSSIBLE that the problem might be fixable by installing the quick little VB6 runtime stuff:

Your editor loads textures from the ROM, right? Think it'll ever be able to edit them?

Whoo I love it

One minor problem though, after I have patched the levels, the track descriptions are missing a few letters.

For example - What should be Straight Jumps comes out as Straight Ju.

But still, like I said its a minor problem.

Ok!

I loved the Big Hand course. The challenge for me was to finish alone having all others pushed over the border without falling in myself of course.

Too bad my computer won't really play N64 games on a decent speed. And that's what you need for F-Zero X. Though I have to say this is really a great patch to have!

Greetings! The news has been around in another thread that I cracked the F-Zero X level storage data and began work on a level editor.

Now, before I go on: I am not in any way encouraging the use of piracy just to make use of what I'll present to you here in a moment. Downloading ROMs is strictly illegal and I don't want anyone to get the impression that I'm telling you it's a good idea to do so. (Generic disclaimer. It shouldn't be an issue in this forum)

With that out of the way, here's the sparkly goodness:

The level editor programming is not yet complete, but there is a little feature you may be fond of. If you've heard of the F-Zero X Expansion Kit, then you know that there's a course creator/editor out there as well as two new cups full of official tracks that are competed in via online tournaments.

Well, the level editor isn't done, but I do have for you a patch that will let you play the Expansion Kit courses!

This program is a self-contained Windows executable that can load any version (North American, Japanese or European/PAL) of the F-Zero X ROM in either format (byte-swapped V64 or normal binary Z64) and allow you to configure the cups to your every whim; including the ability to add the Expansion Kit tracks in for play.

Both the DD-1 and DD-2 Cups from the Expansion Kit are included, and the classic four cups are also in there. Additionally, the classic extensions are included, which consist of Death Race and GP Ending. You will be able to play these courses in GP mode and Time Attack, now.

So without any further ado: the download:

Evil5.zip - F-Zero X Expansion Kit Patch

Please post your comments and complaints here.

And of course, the obligatory screenshots:

This is a picture of the utility itself. Enjoy its majesty.

This is a picture of Big Foot, one of the courses from the Expansion Kit.

This is evidence that you can fully configure the cups in the game. Jack 6, which is usually Port Town, has been replaced with Big Blue 3 from the Expansion Kit.
