Oh weird. I just linked to the file. Anyways, to get the link go to the Game Maker homepage and go to 'Tutorials.' A side scrolling thing will be there.

thanks chris but i have already tried to download it but it still wont work but i can and know how to make a super mario bros 3 game now though i'll have it at my site soon because im still doing some progress with it right now.but thanks for the link anyways |

I also found some old thread (at Game Maker Forums) about the "Smb3 Engine". I believe you can download the game somewhere from down there to get a feel of what it's like, however, I don't know if the download still works.
You can give it a try though, if you'd like to. My advice is that you go on with the platform tutorial stuff first (as posted above), therefore, you'll get the hang of how things work when making a game like Super Mario. |

That is a .ZIP containing Game Maker examples and documents on how to make a sidescrolling game.
Remember to start with the basic engine and worry about 'Mario-izing' it with sprites and scenery later! A good sidescroller is nothing if the gravity stinks!

It's very possible to make a Mario game using game maker, however, it takes a little time. I know of one Mario game that was made, called the "Smb3 Engine", however, I can't find any download links to it anymore... So...you should ask someone who may know about it if you want to check that one out. |
