It sounds like you have a corrupted rom.... Get a fresh one, save your levels to files, and re-insert them in the fresh one. Simple and effective. And if you still have problems..... you probably seriously messed up one of the levels.

Oh, and the world map thingy, just open it in your first rom, open the second rom without closing, and then save to the second rom. Yay! Instant transfer.

Oh, that's simple, just copy and paste every layer into the new ROM one by one.

No, not that I know of. Should I just start over again? also is there away I can move the world map from my "glicthed" rom to a regular one? or will I have to start from scratch?

Coby, that seems unlikely as he says it happens as soon as he loads any level as well.

I don't see how you could have curropted that. Did you put Mario-hurting tiles on your level?

whenever I load up the rom and get to the title screen, mario die's instantly unless i can bring up the file select quick enough. If I select a file, as soon as I enter a level, mario dies. I don't know what excactly i did wrong, as I'm new to smw hacking. Is there any way to remedy this?
