enjoy.

Well that's about all you need to redo that bg3.

First thing is you need to know the ram space which it's used to draw on before it goes to the vram, which is there, secondly you need the code place which refreshes what you see during each vblank, which is also there.

The rest are just knowing what those JSRs are doing and modifiying it a lot to do what you want it to do, it'll take too long to explain what each one does but... if you know anything about how tiles are stored in vram then you'll do fine.

The great thing about that area of code is that the programmer which done is has been quite lazy, unless you're asking for a lot of details you wont' run out of space to write code in (i mean you can just take it and rewrite the code in more efficient manner and have space leftover for your own use, if that fails you can always consider the end of the rom....)

Awesome update, couldn't get any better

Gotta love those two stories houses

I see you not only took time to include some custom fixed corners GFX but also some nice water coming outside the middle place!

I have no doubt about the future sucess of this hack, it'll surely become another classic must play hack. You can easily see it by the quality of work.

Keep up the good work NS

Now off to bed, at long last.. hehe.

See surely double posting should just fall under the Spam category where if its annoying its not aloud...Double posting for a update thats actually worth wild wouldnt be against the rules then.

As you can see, I'm mostly in this board for zelda threads.. Just see my posts... I'm not really interested in message boards at all.
Gotta agree with you there. I only ever post in a non-zelda forum if its someway related to something in my life at the moment or I've got something to show off or got to complement someone on their work. But id pretty much stop at the complement and never post again cause i know itd just be spam id come out with.

As for that update...Ive added a few more things and rounded off the edges a little. I recon this has got to be the first zelda area i ever did where im completed satisfied with it...unless some git comes along and points out a flaw

oh yeah ignore the flaw in the bottom right of the screen. Ive yet to decide where the actual entrance will be right there when i connect it to the nearby areas.

About that double posting thing, I think there's a rule about it. But anyways I never really understood why it was forbidden by most boards... especially whne you want to update your own thread but cannot since you're the last guy that posted in it.

As you can see, I'm mostly in this board for zelda threads.. Just see my posts... I'm not really interested in message boards at all. This board was the second and last board I'm ever going to register to (TEK beeing the first).

Anyway, can't wait for those updates, my life rely on them LOL j/k

But actually I'd like to see them before I get to sleep tonight...

Insteand of demo's, just throw a handful of pictures at us, or give us updates. That way you might not lose motivation after releasing a demo or whatnot.

I've never really enjoyed demo's anyways. And most of the time they end up being disappointing. Why? People usually don't finish their hacks afterwards (no offense NEON, trust me I've seen a lot of others do it too).

Gah, DxEdge should have finished Megaman Vortex.
I thought DX only released it as a demo cause he didnt manage to finish the entire game... Might be wrong though.

having your own thread for your hack is a good thing. i agree updates and pictures are better. So NO DEMO! Plus the advantage of one big thread is you can dip in and out with updates and information when you feel like. And i doubt youd get cained for double posting...cause its your thread.

Exactly what I'm doing.. If I wouldn't show anything, for my part I think I would have cancelled the hack by then.. that's the way I work, posting updates help me focus even more to finish it once and for all.. I've been having too much downtimes lately and I couldn't agree more with you.

Meanwhile as for your request NEONswift

I'd have to agree...i noticed the amount of work i did on ZDG went down right after my demo. I intend to do more gfx editing though im confused about a lot of the graphics.. some seem to be repeated despite them being in the same gfx set and also using the same colours and block types.

You think Euclid has any ASM / HEX details for the layer 3 HUD lieing around...im gona want to start one a new one soon.

You really got back into hacking due to my hack? I'm honored of that. I always considered your demo a brillant piece of work when it got released. And then we never heard of you again, In fact I even though you were gone for good. Demos are evil you know. They tend to take too much time for nothing and are likely to make you abandon your work. In your case an hd failure is another thing but who knows what could hapenned. Can't wait to see those improvements aswell.

Because the game loads the door opening other gfx.. so if you are going to change that say gfx for the doors, all the doors must have that same gfx. Eh... anyway that's a thing you shouldn't even care for now.. Like if I were you I would probably concentrate on finishing the overworlds as gfx comes in generally when everything is finished.
My whole intended break for a few days never actually happened. you replied and i got straight back into improving that area. GFX is something thar comes later but its a great way to seperate doing the same thing like the overworld and getting bored.

I fixed those houses they look better now. I'll show the improvements later. At work at the moment so my hack isnt at hand.

The one thing about zelda hacking thar amuses me is that according to you Seph i got you into hacking Z3 due to my demo...then i stopped hacking and now i find myself back into it again due to your hack which has forced me to push my quality up. Circle of life i guess.

You ain't stupid.. there's simply no space for new graphics. If you want to say have new gfx in game, you have to overwrite the existing tilesets (Get rid of some stuff in order to have newer stuff.) Simple as that. I know it's stupid and it's one of the reasons why I hated gfx editing in this game.
Yeah i worked that out myself just today. I noticed that you had freed up a single block for a new graphic by simply removing the bottom stump of the doors. My wooden houses are looking better already now. I always assumed gfx editing was gonna piss me off but after tinkering with PSP a little Ive configured it to work well with the Z3 graphics. Hopefully a picture of the slightly revamped forest houses soon...

Zelda: Reflections

... meh?

It's looking good, and I can faintly remember the beginning of your demo (that did start in the forest I believe?) so it's good to hear you're kind of editing from there.

I like the idea also, being able to explore a lot and having the world open to you at the start, doesn't seem like anyone else has really went into making a Z3 hack with such an idea yet.

All looks good.

Yeah no worries man, I'm sure what I'm seeing will get better each time you edit it again... you sure don't want to see my first attempts at editing this game lol... I can say what I'm seeing up there is hundreds of times better then what I had when I started.. Oh well found an old crappy backup on a cd... here's in exclusivity seph's fist attempt at hacking this game (You know you don't want to see these!):

Hehe... you don't get good in two days... just in 2 years lol...

Anyway, all I can hope is that you get it done someday

dude that looks quality. thanks for the advice. I was confused for a minute about your bugs statement but yeah new gfx is needed. At the moment im just sorta laying down the foundations for the whole map. I intend to get into the gfx editing just not right now. I'd already done a lot before i lost my hack so i was quite pissed off at the time. Im looking forward to playing your hack even more now. It looks spiffy.
