I'd say Super Metroid, followed by Metroid: Zero Mission.

I suck at Metroid. I've beaten Fusion and Zero Mission but they gave me some pretty obvious pointers. I have yet to play through Super Metroid.

I haven't touched Prime for a while, I had lots of problems with the bosses and then someone told me that the next boss I'm about to face is hard like hell compared to the others, so I got kind of dismotivated and haven't played it since.

I had a blast playing through it and getting every little thing. Super Metroid does the same thing in 2D and was truly a wonderfully innovative title. They both have amazing qualities, but Prime just seemed more immersive for me. Good stuff.

Mind you, I think Prime 2 is okay, but definitely not worth the first or second spots (maybe not even third). It's the same as Prime 1, except it has that annoying dark world I really dislike. That world just seems really poorly done. It's not very fun; I try to avoid it as much as possible. Plus, ammo for all weapons except the main one in a Metroid game? Ugh.

That was one of my complaints for Prime 2 also. In some parts of the game, the Dark World only seemed to be a "Purple version" of the Light World, and it really wasn't that much different.

And most of the music in the Dark World didn't seem that great, it was just very slow low tuned ambience.

Still, Prime 2 is awesome.

And I have to correct one of my posts above, Prime 2 actually took me 17 hours to beat, but Prime took me over 20.
(edit: I thought I said it took me 10 hours to beat somewhere? Oh well)

I personally find Super Metroid to be the best one. I have played all of the metroid games, but Super Metroid is the only one which I've finished multiple times. It was a somewhat simple game, but it was and is still interesting.

I would probably put Metroid Prime in second place. It brought a new view to the Metroid series which was also interesting.

Don't mind me asking, but what happens when you beat Metroid Prime 2 with 100%?

I'm pretty sure I got around like 98% and needed one missile tank, I've only beaten that game once though. I don't know, it just didn't grasp me as much as Prime did, which I've beaten about 4-5 times (mostly on Hard Mode because it's more fun).

I got 100%, and if I check, I'm pretty sure that you get to see Samus without her space suit, and you get to see a little clip at the ending (or something like that) that includes Dark Samus and may be a hint for something that happens in Prime 3.

I'd have to say Prime 2. Although a lot of people don't like it as much as Prime, I found it to be more enjoyable because there seemed to be more of a coherent storyline being played out. Even then, though, all the story's been told in the scannable things, which has been disappointing.

You're not alone. I didn't play a lot of Metroid games, but Fusion was pretty damn cool.

Why would somebody be crazy?

It's not a matter of "what game looks better", but which one did you enjoy the most.

Metroid Prime is my second choice though. Just a masterpiece game. Never got the chance to play part two, but my friend says it isn't really worth it.

I wouldn't say that. It sounds like you enjoyed Prime, so you should seriously pick up Prime 2. Expect everything to be similar, but there's new features and some item replacements, etc.

The only thing I didn't like about Prime 2 was it's length, it wasn't nearly as long as Prime, but it's still worth playing. And it's definitely awesome.

No contest: Prime 2.

Super Metroid is good and all... but it's really, really easy... too easy for it's own good I could say. It was really breath-taking and it still is... but it is hammered into the ground on every level by both Metroid Primes.

I also consider Zero Mission to be equal to Super Metroid. I don't know what people have against it... Personally, I tought it was about as long as Super Metroid (smaller maps that takes just as long to travel trought as Super Metroid's larger maps) and I liked the extra parts compared to the original (I especially liked the true final boss).

Overall, Zero Mission is shorter but harder than Super Metroid. Both got outstanding level design. Both were very fun. As such, I am unable to decide which one is better.

So... final ranking:

1-Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
2-Metroid Prime
3-Super Metroid/Metroid Zero Mission (tie)

No contest. Super Metroid was pretty much the game that was the catalyst for modern-day adventure games, and was just so immersive for a 16-bit game.

Well, Super Metroid got my to like the Metroid series. The second best would be Metroid Prime 2, much more challenging than the first one because of the dark world, and the fact that most of your weapons have limited ammo makes it challenging.

My order:

Super Metroid - Easily stands out the most. You returned to Zebes, the world was breathtaking, the music was incredible, the game was huge. Easily one of my favorite games of all time next to Link to the Past.

Metroid - It's a classic. Very innovative for it's time.

Metroid Prime - Breathtaking. This game gave me that feeling like I was 8 years old, playing an old game ... it felt great.

Metroid Prime 2 - Take Metroid Prime, and make it even harder, and make the environments even more detailed

And I honestly didn't think Zero Mission was as bad as everyone says, it was good, but yeah, it's not better than the original ... duh?

Fusion was kind of bad in my opinion, just way too linear and easy.

Metroid II was just ... different, not bad though, but it had a weird feel to it.

That about sums it up, even though there's not a ton of Metroid games, the ones that are good, and incredible masterpeices.

Super Metroid by far... closely followed by Prime 1

Metroid prime 2 was too linear, still good. Havent played Fusion or Metroid 2, Zero Mission was alright, I liked it, it just wasnt up there. Metroid 1... Never even bothered to figure out how to finish that game.

SM had the right amount of linearness and freedom I like, and Prime... 2 words, sequence breaking!

Oooh, that's a tough one... I love them all so much... I would have to say Prime 2, followed VERY closely by Super Metroid. I dunno, Metroid multiplayer just pushes it over to top for me.

Super Metroid. Second best is Metroid.
Haven't played Prime, but Zero Mission and Fusion KILLED my interest in Metroid.
