Yeah, I don't quite get why some of the rappers went up there.

But Dan Akroyd wouldn't sing Ghostbusters

I heard that they were considered for it, but Geldof thought they didn't really fit into the grand scheme of things.

That's what I didn't get. Kanye goes onstage and is rapping about putting your diamonds in the air...that's only one example, but I thought there was poor song selection by some.

I heard the Spice Girls were supposed to make their returning debut at Live 8, but ended up having to cancel because one member hadn't made up her mind yet about the group getting back together.
What a shame. Those peoples' lives would have been spiced up.

Live 8 London was just Party in the Park with three Africans.

Well, if I had something with more oomph in it, I would have drank that! All I had was raspberry water to begin with so...

The Stones should have played Barrie since they were in Toronto anyways practicing for their upcoming tour. :\ It was rumored up until the actual day of the concert itself but never materialized.

Actually, if you want high-brow music, go to Sonar or All Tomorrow's Parties. But to the point, the thing with Glastonbury is that it's not helping the Africans is it? For some reason, you and many others have this theory that good music and charity are mutually exclusive entities, which isn't the case and shouldn't be the case. Hence why you get a lot of these naysayers. I remember back when the Band Aid 20 single came out a phrase that I heard a lot was "I'd rather just give them the

I like both. I was being sarcastic.

Me? I'd have loved it if both had shown.

Put it this way, Live 8's purpose was to attract publicity, instead of a celebration of music. it's SUPPOSED to be populist. What's wrong with that? if you want high-brow music, then go to Glastonbury.

You say "high brow muso" like it's a bad thing. Also why is it that you like The Spice Girls but seem to have disdain for Girls Aloud?

Place - Well we could have used the only other drink that was available in Hyde Park - Red Bull but if I had to drink THAT much Red Bull I'd be like a human version of the Crazy Frog

Alrighty, all you high brow musos are scoffing at the line up, who would you RATHER have played Hyde Park? Put it this way at least there was no GIrls Aloud there

Also, being there is a different thing entirely to watching it on TV. Stating the obvious I know, and yes I know that Keane, Coldpay, Dido et al were all mellow performances, but it meant that the audience went through the whole gamut of human emotions, believe me - we had plenty of opportunity to rock!

The sheer millions of people who ask that question and what do you use for a drinking game? Water. Unbelieveable. All that water that could've gone to dehydrated African children...

The concert I watched on TV - it was awesome. But what exactly is it for?

*takes big gulp of water*

That was one of the Live 8 drinking game points - big gulp whenever someone asks what the concert was about. I mean, the point was only driven home around eighty billion times by Bob Geldof and almost every performer that took the stage.

Miss Dynamite was apalling, and I'd forgotten about her performance 'til you reminded me of it . That's surely consigned her to a career of doing Newsround-esque support work for the 'young talent' amongst London's underclass.

If "Big Time Sensuality" is Bjork's crowning achievement then "Milk & Honey" is John Lennon's. Ben's right: our roster was poorer than the people it was trying to save. Berlin, on the other hand, had it going on: Brian Wilson, Roxy Music, Faithless...even Green Day are preferable to their shirt-tail dwelling pastiches that adorned the British stage - Razorlight and The Killers to name but two.

The Floyd were good but in amongst the ocean of mellow blandness that made up a great deal of the show - Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Dido, Keane etc. - sadly they weren't the right sort of lifeguard. And the fact that Robbie Williams - a self-righteous, laddish Mancunian who sings songs about nothing - speaks volumes about the state of pop music at the moment. I mean, come on, I'm not expecting it to be 'the same' as Live Aid but you'd at least want it to be as memorable.

Still, (most of) their hearts were in the right place. Unfortunately, that place shouldn't be where Snoop Dogg of all people wipes the floor with them.

Well how can I describe the atmosphere in Hyde Park? (I'm going to try to later.. on me blog...)

But it was absolutely amazing.. something to tell the Grandchildren methinks....

Highlights? Well Pink Floyd were sublime - as you'd expect, they mellowed the crowd so much, it's like they were talking us to another planet.

Ben whatddya mean the line up was crap? Japan can keep Bjork - she didn't even sing "Big Time sensuality" (As Dawny and I were early, they showed us performences from All other venues from around the world on the big screens..and we saw Bjork's entire Japanese Set. She was headlining by the looks of things. A Shame I wabnted to see Dreams Come true...)

NE ways... Robbie williams was also superb, you may groan, as some of you highbrow musos out there will look down your noses at such "Lowest common demonimator" poppy artist,, but was the closest thing Live 8 had to Freddy Mercury's stage presence - he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand... and what I felt after singing "Angels" with 200,000 other people was something I don't think I can ever describe....

To be honest there were too many highlights for me to completely describe.. the atmosphere was amazing.

Lowlights? Ms Dynamite was a bit pants (although I liked the "Redemption Song". What were UB40 doing there? Most of the crowd went to the loo when ther were on (Fact)
Pete Dogherty was obviously off his face and couldn't sing... shame...

Well I have to go to work soon.....

As for people saying "awwww" to the Ethiopian girl>? Well they'd just shown us the "Drive" video, everyone was close to, or in tears, and when she came on stage, we all cheered... it;'s when she hugged Madonna (was was also crying) we all went "aww....", because she was obviously happy to see Madonna..... it made sense on the day anyway, we weren't being patronising.

Talk more about it later

Well, Bob Geldof didn't *deserve* to be there looking at past musical accomplishments, but I can overlook that seeing as how he *did* kinda organize the thing and put in a couple of hours for it... and he only did one song. He's allowed to be greedy.

(Of course, The Killers only got one song and I can't understand that logic at all.)

Canada's concert is worth looking out for when the DVD hits, I think. Fun to see the "old" acts get cheered, Rex Murphy (who wrote a newspaper article saying Live 8 won't work) get booed, and Celine Dion get... well... crapped on by the audience.

I just wish they'd have given more time to bands who are actually popular and decent today.

Bands like U2, Pink Floyd and Paul McCartney are classics, but NOBODY WANTS TO SEE STING AGAIN. It's a shame that Muse were exported to Paris. They should've performed in their own country, there were plenty of acts that didn't really deserve to be there. Miss Dynamite, I'm looking at you.

Hey Elmo- Me and Chad are packing our bags and coming to the capital of Elmoland to see Rammstein in a fortnight
