then the fault is 100% the tracker of which you are downloading from--i had connection problems to others because the tracker did not like me (but it was okay with others) and they didn't figure out the problem. After they changed trackers, I didn't have much of a problem anymore.

Actually, Boxtorrents is working fine. It's Torrentspy that's giving me a problem.

Incidentally, I met Box last year at Amecon. He gets

Boxtorrens has never given me that problem. Maybe it's a tracker thing.

That's what I was thinking when I read this. I'm using XP2, and have windows firewall enabled along with norton's enabled, and the port I use is in the 10000-19999 range, and still get a green light on nearly everything. But there are some torrents that are yellow nonetheless. Do you think it might be your connection?

I've tried forwarding 40000 to 60000, like Colin said, and changed the listening ports accordingly. I'm getting a green download from a download of Macross Zero from Boxtorrents, but my DS9 from Torrentspy is still yellow

other factors also include how far you are from an internet "backbone" -- i'm 13 hops away from an internet backbone--as a result, i don't get very good speeds--20 on average.

If you are getting something, that's probably all you will get. P2P is notoriously slow, including BitTorrent. 20KB/s is a pretty good speed. (Though you can get up to as fast as your connection will go at some points, it's pretty much a matter of luck.)

Also you'll get the best speeds around halfway through the download. When you just start you don't have anything and so you need to find people to download from and establish connections and all that, and you'll have a crappy share ratio. At the end it becomes harder to find the few pieces you don't have, so it slows down again.

You have the newest client? I was using 2.3.0.0 and got NOTHING. Every download was red, uploads wouldn't do anything. Now 2.3.0.4 works great.

thats one of the best DS9 seasons....

I dont have a router, but I also get slow speeds in azureus, so it may just be the client, I use Bittornado, I suggest you try that one..it gives me speeds above 100KB/s if theres enough seeds and peers

edit:heres the site http://www.bittornado.com/

I tried out Azureus, and it reported back access to 6881 was fine.

I tried two seperate torrents. One is Top Gear, 300MB. The other is DS9 6th Season - 8GB.

Top Gear: Seeds- 70(527), Peers 10 (511), 4k/s download, 1.3 k/s upload

DS9: Seeds- 10(11), Peers 68(207), Download 8 b/s, 0 b/s upload.

This has been going for ten minutes. I did get 50k/s on Top Gear, but I restarted and it hasn't forgiven me since. Still crappy download speeds.

Edit: I limited my upload to 4k/s, and it limited my download to 8. Well, I got pissed off with this and I set it to unlimited. Now I'm getting anything from 7k - 22k, but it's still not increasing.

have you tried azureus? it has a option to test to see if port forwarding is done correctly. also, you have changed your listen ports outside the 6881-6889 range?

I'm using XP SP2 and the Windows Firewall is disabled.

This is the tutorial I used to port forward. It also instructed me to set up my PC with a static IP. So I port forwarded the ports I mentioned and it still didn't work. The tutorial didn't mention anything about forwarding on TCP or UDP, just the ports that need forwarding and the IP it needs to be forwarded to.

it could also be the case that windows firewall could also be up when you disable norton...

Couldn't you also use any other range of ports aside from those? :\ I go to a few BT sites where you CAN'T use any ports in that range, so you need to just come up with a random 5-digit number range (I use 40000 - 60000) and go from there.

I think you need to forward both TCP and UDP for BitTorrent.

Well, make sure you port-forwarded them with TCP. Most routers I seen port-forwards thoose two protocols seperatly. (and i'm quite sure it's TCP, looking at my own settings...)

And oh, use run and write cmd. Write ipconfig and check if the IP is 192.168.0.22. I don't doubt it is, but it have happened that I got wrong IP once that caused some screwy things. (fixed that by doing ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew).

It could be also the Windows own firewall turning on itself, but I seriously doubt that.

It could help to mention exact OS. Windows XP with SP2 I assume?

Norton Firewall can be screwy thought, I seen it blocking port 80 even while being turned off! Turning it on fixed it.

Ok, this is my second assault on Bit Torrent, and I still can't figure it out. I've port forwarded ports 6881 to 6999 to my IP, which I've now set to static, 192.168.0.22. I'm still getting yellow coloured downloads, even when I disable Norton. Any ideas?
