You probably can't see it b/c Swampgas, the admin of zophar.net has been moving over to another server or something. And all the people with subdomains are having to negotiate with him to keep their space. so it will probably be back up in a matter of time.

Its very strange, I had the desire to put ice GFX in it when I first played Super Metroid! I guess great mins think alike!

If you want, I can help you with your tilesets for your hack. I just need a good Tile Table editor...

Fine then.

KP stop stealing my ideas!

j/k I say this because the entirety of my hack is supposed to take place on an icy planet. Speaking of which, I may have to update progress on my hack some time soon,

You've really got me wondering how it's going to flow. What other ideas are you not referring to ... exacty?

Sounds fun, I'm going to check over at Zophar's for more information.

jman: Those aren't my ideas... KP's working on those areas, not me. Each person working on the hack will be able to develop their region as they see fit (will flow fairly well in the end, believe it or not).

You can expect this tileset to look a lot like the Phendrana Drifts area from MP. It will not be a dark and dreary underground but a bright and active snow/ice surface. Maybe ice versions of the Magmoor also.

Tell jathys to stop stealing my ideas!! XD

j/k looking good

That's awesome, that's a type of enviroment I thought SM should have really had, an Icey / Snowy place.

Looking forward to it.

Edit: Is the site currently down or something?

Aside from the glitched tiles, that is awesome.

I should really play Super Metroid, I've never played it but this hack may just get me to do so

Yeah, I mean it's only one of the greatest games ever.

#1 - It is magnetball, not spiderball. Spiderball was Nintendo's and was in Metroid 2. Magnetball is similar, but not the same.

#2 - KP9000 is (quite clearly) the main graphics person for the hack. Do keep in mind though that the mario shot may not necessarily be in the hack (anything's possible though I guess).

#3 - The reason you haven't been seeing too many screenshots? In all honesty, because almost no level editing or graphic editing have been officially done. Those are still in the brainstorming stages. 99% of what's been done so far is ASM . . . Whereas some of these changes are significant, some of them are harder to show in a screenshot. I will be updating (with some screenshots) on Sunday though. I might be mentioning one or two more of my ASM codes, though there have actually been 5 more made since the last page update (ie- what you see on the page is only what I've felt like giving people a sneak peak at).

FYI- I will be doing a public release of some of the lesser codes as well. Definitely not the majority, but a few small edits for non-ASM people to use.

-Magnetball
-SMILE release, GFX Editing with Tile Table editing
-Tons of other screens to show what has been going on

I think you mean spiderball... not magnetball...

Im not making any final judgements until I see some screenshots . But its good to hear SM is being hacked

This shows promise. The first screen gives it an icy apperance, and the second... crossovers. o.o Other than that, it's good. Just one question: Will you be adding some of the enemies that were cut out from the original SM game? (Baby Crocomire, shot reflectors, unknown enemy that attacks when it absorbs too much beam shots from Samus)

Jathys is working on this?

Thus:
*Hack is automatically labeled amazing*

Seems like it'll be pretty innovative with new ASM tricks added to it and such.

I'm definitely liking the increase of SM hack threads here now, and this is one I can say I'll really be looking forward too. Keep it up!

Hey, the SMA acronym is mine! I used it first XD

Anyway, awesome progress. From what I've heard on IRC, Jathys is working real hard to come up with a project that will amaze, and I'm very sure he will succeed. How ambitious is it? It very well could be a bit more ambitious than my own hack

As for the graphics: those look vaguely familiar

Ok, here is the post I copied from TEK:

Okay, some things to post... First I'd like to post the link to the official SMA site.

http://jathys.zophar.net/smile/alliance.html

Right now, the only people for sure on this project is Jathys and myself. There are others helping with ASM and testing, but the level design department is only covered by the two of us.

ASM Done so far/b]
1) clearmem.asm - Sets $7FFFA00-$7FFFFF to $FFFF's (for consistency in different emulators).
2) gravity.asm - Allows gravity to be set to different values by scripts or the bts of a room.
3) blocker.asm - Allows gates to be set that open only when certain events have occurred... This is a work in progress, as I may have to add support for other events.
4) doorpal.asm and doorpal2.asm - Prevent fading to black on door transitions (if the Room Index of the starting room is between 80-FF).
5) starteq.asm - Allows me to change the equipment that Samus starts the game with.
6) onebomb.asm - Allows Samus to drop one bomb at a time, until a second bomb item is picked up (then bombs are "normal" again). This basically allows bomb-jumping to be something that has to be earned as a power-up.
7) onebeam.asm - The beam splitter code . . . A work in progress, who's purpose is known only to few

There are a few of other ASM changes made, such as a new item, which will be implemented to increase the puzzle complexity and versatility of Samus.

I don't know how many details Jathys wants me to divulge at this moment since it isnt on the official page. I will check with him to see what can be said.

Finally, a few words from Jathys:

The brainstorming is mostly done. I just need to implement it. As this will be a huge undertaking, the hack will be done by a team.

For the most part, I'll be concerning myself with ASM changes in the hack, as the game will require new events and features to accomplish what I'm hoping to do (details coming later).

If you'd like to join the project by helping with level design, you have 3 things to do:
1) Edit room $7D2AA
2) Send me the patch to show off your style/skill
3) Wait for me to let you know (either way, you'll hear from me, but it may take a week)

But, one last thing to show you...

This screen is *real*. GFX editing is possible with tile table editing coming. Unsure if tile table editing is included in next build of SMILE though...
