Yeah, man. The best alternative to sprite sheets I can think of is Game Maker. It has great support for importing graphics.

That's exactly it. Since I used GM for like 2 years, I got really used to doing individual frames. And I found out RPG maker didnt have this and was like =((((( |

If you're not going to deal with drawing multiple frames, then you kinda just get one. Which doesn't look good, I'll tell you.
Well, unless you use some vector format, which are woefully underused and rather technical (though awesome in my opinion). 3D systems are almost all vector too. But I don't know any game makers that use either of those approaches. |

GameMaker. Although it's pretty hard to use at first. it has it's own coding language and stuff. Its free, but you can buy the registered version that has more features. I reccomend buying it. |

Hmm... I'm not sure if there are makers that don't use sprite sheets.
I know of some alternatives to RPG Maker though (Although you will have to search for these on google as I don't kow much about them):
